Yeah their rates are slightly cheaper than EK for me but it's the daily charge (or lack of) that's really making the difference here.

I am calling it a little early I need a few months of usage but just looking at it, it's already going to be cheaper than EK, it's just how much.

Octopus is about $30 per month more expensive then EK for me, but I'm not on a low user tariff so there is a daily charge.

Higher users who can time shift to the free hour can get a great deal on EK MoveMaster. Otherwise their peak price is higher than average, but the shoulder price is 25% less than peak and night is 50% less than peak. It works out a little cheaper for us than Octopus.

Ahh there we go - the government has ordered low user plans to be phased out over time so your rates are going to change every year (for the next 4 years i think as its a 5 year phase out) no matter which provider you are with.

I am in hawkes bay and rates are exactly the same as before - no price rise. 

 

My understanding was the only reason to be with trustpower due to their higher rates is if you are in the tauranga area so you get the rebate.  But I just had a read of the eligibility criteria and woah thats interesting how they are culling off the number of beneficiaries over time. 

 

In Wairarapa, Goodnights plan going from 85.1c per day to 96.7c per day and 27cpkwh to 30cpkwh.

I am currently siting at 49% of my power is free so not worth moving.

Here in Hawkes Bay its $2.00 per day but our local lines company obviously charges more for the daily charge and less for the transport so the unit rate is only 21c/kwh   

Some lines companies charge less per day but tack on a charge per kwh transported to encourage higher users to pay more for the line maintenance. 

Although we weren't on the Goodnights plan, we got the "your price is going up" email from Contact.

So we swapped to Mercury and (because we are a big user), we're now paying about $70 less per month by swapping - and that's PRIOR to the Contact price increase.

Oh - and they threw a $250 credit on our account (making this months bill rather low!).

New rate with Mercury is 15.73 (incl Elec levy)/kwh, 118.44/day.

Frank Energy (formerly energy online, owned by Genesis) had the cheapest standard user anytime (ie: don't care about micro managing power usage vs time of day) rates for my area and usage (~1000KwH per 30 days)
