Samsung often gets a bad name here.

For balance.

Our $700 Samsung 230V 255l digital inverter fridge/freezer has survived all the shakes and rattles for the last nine years of full-time travel in our motorhome.

Perfect silent and economic operation so far. The beer is cold and the ice-cream remains hard.

It will eventually be replaced with another Samsung if a suitable size is still available at the time.

Funny you should mention that. We're renting while in between sale and purchase of next home. The rental kitchen doesn't fit our French door ice & water fridge so that's gone into the garage and our old garage fridge, a circa 2006 E522B has been promoted back into the kitchen. I just replaced the mouldy old seals and it is now like a new fridge - runs flawlessly and is still reasonably efficient for a garage fridge. And quite large.

I really do miss the ice and water. Chilled filtered water I just enjoy drinking and permanently full ice bin... got really used to that.

Noticed on the F&P website, their premium fridges are 2 star energy efficiency.

Other way round. The mid to high end F&P fridges (column, French door, quad door) are 3.5 star. Bog standard are 2 star.

Five years ago I bought a Haier fridge, for the same reason - it was the only model that would fit into the space.

It has worked very well, and build quality is excellent. Much better than my old F&P fridge, which died a horrible death.

The only minor irritation is a pointless illuminated thermometer on the door, but this turns itself off soon after the door is shut.

The F&P would fit the rest with the rest of the kit in the kitchen, and the colour is likely to be a spot on match.

The little things make the biggest difference.

We've got 2 fridges, an LG and a F&P. The LG has never had any problems or broken bits, we've broken various bits of the F&P. So I think the F&P is a bit tinnier than the LG.

We nearly bought a Samsung because for the external dimensions it had more interior room. The sales staff warned us off them, they said getting spares can be impossible, especially a few years after the model was made, so a small issue can write the entire fridge off. I assume this is still the case.

Still happy with our french door Mitsubishi.

Just bought an LG upright freezer, it's only a few weeks only so can't comment on it as a brand.

From what I've read / seen Samsung kitchen appliances seem to be poor, unlike their electronics. A quick look at Consumer, they seem to rate LG, F&P, and Mitsubishi highly - among others. You can pay for the article / a membership if you would like the details.

The F&P I purchased about 15 years ago still works well. The vege bin lid broke after a small number of years, I didn't bother replacing it. It has nothing fancy like water chillers, I don't need anything like that. It makes odd noises at times, which you can only hear if the room is quiet, but at 15 years old that's not unexpected.

anecdotally we’ve had the opposite situation. Samsung fridge freezer of about 12 years of age still going strong without missing a beat or needing parts, the f&p fridge freezer we bought to replace it that’s approx 5 years old needed parts replacing after 2, personally wouldn’t buy again.

for a big double door with plumbed water my brother has had both Samsung and sharp (I think) at his homes and they both never had any had issues. But they were $2000+ units so I would expect that.

The e522 is a well proven design that's been made for years and is genrally reliable. They worked most of the kinks out a lomg time ago.

If you want water in door the FP design is really very good as it doesn't cost you any internal space in the fridge.

Our 10 year old LG side by side, packed up about six weeks ago. We didn't want LG again, but instead went with Haier and so far it has been great. It is very quiet and keeps the fruit and vegetables fresher for much longer than the LG ever did.

Added bonus is a non plumbed Water Dispenser. It's a quad door too.

I've got an LG side x side fridge freezer in my shed. It's got an ice / water dispenser in the freezer door, and the water dispenser not longer works. The pipe for the water comes from a solenoid behind the unit, underneath and then through the centre of the bottom hinge. The previous owners knocked it while moving house, shearing the hose off flush with the hinge. There's no way to repair it, you can't open the door to replace the hose, can't put a joiner at the break because there isn't enough room.

It still works fine as a fridge/freezer, but is a really poor design from a repair perspective

Look at it the other way round, do you want to put it on Trademe now as working fridge or on the kerb in a few years as inorganic rubbish?
