invisibleman18: Cool. That Spark code is annoying, renewed my sub 2 days ago.

I emailed PLP saying I’d only just renewed my membership, and now have been given the Spark code. Just had a reply, saying they have refunded the discounted amount back to my credit card.

Did you have to give any proof you're a Spark customer? I'm not so don't know if they would give it to me.

Just emailed PLP so fingers crossed...

@SwansNZ how did you come across this promo code out of interest?  I presume it's only for spark broadband customers only..  I'm on spark prepaid so hopefully it works..

So this is the proper first live match on PLP that I have watched.  I'm on my PC, with a 22mbit VDSL line, and 1920x1200... I've selected 4500 as the bitrate... My god it is CRAP!  It's not sharp and the quality the ball has when moving is shocking!  To be honest, I expected better, much better!  I can appreciate that those that didn't have Sky are happy as its 'cheap' but its not HD quality in my opinion, but this is all we have if we want to watch it live... That is not choice, this again is a monopoly!

You do realise that the delivery is actually optimised for a TV screen right?

4500kbps is I believe 1080, anyway I'm watching it on a screen with the resolution set at 1920 x 1080 and it looks perfect.

No, 4500 is a bitrate, and determines the quality in addition to the algorithm used.. The resolution can be set independently of that; obviously the higher the bitrate, the better high resolutions look.  Sky used to feed their games at 9000kbps and they looked sharp... this is just poor.  I've reset my monitor to 1920x1080 as it can do 1:1 mapping and it hasn't changed it, still not good.

Right, just got it going on my Samsung 1080p plasma and it looks the same, poor.  You can really see the low bitrate when the ball moves quickly across the ground, doesn't appear to be able to keep the detail up as it moves.

It's a shame as I know that the sports reports on the news shows the PLP logo in the corner and that looks better than this!

I know 4500 is the bitrate. For Neulion delivered products, 4500 is the equivalent of a TV broadcast at 1080.

Have you attempted to work with the PLP help desk (which is run by Neulion?)

Personally I've never had an issue with Neulion delivered products (NHL, PLP, NBA, NFL & MLB are the ones I use) so am somewhat bemused when people talk about issues with it.

Is anyone else having problems with the United v Tottenham game? I've had ghosting and distorted lines since half time. Tried it on several devices so it must be the feed.

Doesn't look like PLP have made any improvements at all since last season. Disappointing!

Yes, see my comments above.  Poor quality at speed (and I'm not talking about utd :-( )

This is poor quality regardless of the speed of play. I have areas of the screen that have been corrupt since half time.

Until half time it was on par with what the quality was last season. Picture quality isn't crisp. About 720p. The frame rate is still two slow to keep up with fast paced action.

I had been thinking that the fill rate would probably have been fine for a 720p stream, but its too blocky at 1080p in my opinion.   The main thing, and I noticed this right at the beginning was the inability to keep up with the panning of the camera and retain the quality.. Static shots are fine, slow moving are ok but fast pans following the ball are really poor.

Not sure what it is, because I was watching it and it was absolutely fine. Was watching on a HP Z210 plugged into a NEC 32" display at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Looked the same as the AB's game that was on Sky just prior.

I do know from experience that I didn't mention before, watching stuff delivered over the Neulion platform in Chrome causes funny things to happen. That and the apps for TV's & other devices often end up with inferior quality but Firefox and IE are usually perfectly fine.

I tried Edge and IE11 and both where the same.  Was watching initially on my 24" Samsung monitor but moved in to the lounge on to the media pc connected to my 51" plasma 1080p set.  I haven't watched live footy for two years since PLP won the contract and this was my first real attempt to try it and the quality has really put me off. Since my first purchase of a Plasma TV in 2007 I was used to watching football in HD with decent quality (UK and then here) and to now see that PLP hasn't really improved and there is no alternative apart from delayed coverage is disappointing.

I agree its unfortunate that you can't experience it in the way you want (and I'm not being facetious). I was trying to help, a lot of people I know who have had issues it turned out to be a PEBKAC issue as opposed to the technology. So once you got that fixed usually the quality was TV like.

Personally, I prefer this method, because under Sky you were lucky to get more than 4-5 games a round and they'd simply not bother if there was a Rugby game on.

I have to say that my picture quality for the MUFC game was great. Has been crap in past especially during fast Runs but today was prefect via Samsung tv app.

Blurtie:
Giggs: I am looking at subscribing.  Is there anyway you can test the feed before signing up?  I had a look on the website and couldn't see any way of doing this.

Found a 'sample' feed under the "About" tab.  Not really a test feed, but just gives you a video you can watch.  Whether you get the same results during a live stream is another question...

Thanks. I gave it a go and it looked OK but I have decided to stick with MOTD.

Cheers
