JarrodM: Interesting that Optus has outbid Fox Sports in Australia for the EPL rights from next year

I was hoping for a "TVNZ has outbid for EPL in NZ in 2016" Good on Optus, following the move Coliseum did a few years back.

I wonder if the Australian version of Geekzone with also have a thread with 181 pages of complaining about the poor quality of streaming?

Once they all stop complaining about the RWC, they'll be onto this none...

I'd be interested to see the business model (pathway to market) as Optus havent announced it yet.  If it is analogous to premierleaguepass then the pricing will be very interesting.  And the quality.
Will Kiwis use DNS services to subscribe to the Australian service?   If so, what impact on PLP and its possible renewal of rights for next season.
Are Australians currently using DNS services to subscribe to the NZ service?

From their forums, yes it looks like quite a few are using PLP via DNS, the "HD" topic pops up a few times.

What's the bet that it launches in Australia with better app support than PLP

You would hope it would being as it is the mobile compnay not a 3rd party who has the rights.

Couple of interesting things could happen

NZ could go full circle and be what Australia was for the last 3 years (inc this one) of EPL

PLP could have upped bid for rights based on many overseas users and get burned

Based on the selling of streaming and other rights and use of VPNs etc there might soone become a time when there is a world wide price not a country price.

I gave up my subscription this season after having nothing but trouble with my paulty 6Mbps connection (even though it was good enough for Netflix and iPlayer) but now I'm on new cabinet and am sitting pretty on 17Mbps ;)

So I signed up for a week to see if it was any better and unfortunately it was worse ! I was watching the West Brom v Arsenal game and after about ten minutes the stuttering was unbearable. It was consistent though, like one of those flick books rather than jerking. I tried stopping and restarting it, I closed the browser and logged back in with no change.

I cant remember at which point I gave up watching this thread, but I certainly cant go back though 180 pages, so are there any quick tips ? I tried everything two years ago, changed browsers, changed different hardware settings in different browsers, etc but got nowhere.

Has nothing improved in the meantime ?

I did find that viewing on my laptop was a better experience than viewing on my tablet/ipad/samsung tv. I have tried all the different apps and find that streaming to my laptop to be the most consistent.

This was through my HTPC. I'm just trying it on my N5 with the app. It's fine until around 42 minutes into the game. That was the exact same point it started on the HTPC yesterday.

I watch the Man United game on sunday morning on my HTPC, first half was ok, nothing spectacular but was fine... Second half was a jerking horrible mess, lower quality (despite 4500K selected), even worse when panning... What has happened?  I've never been happy with the quality but how can one half be fine but the other half not, especially as I just left it running!  I still maintain that this service is shocking and not worth the money, I do still wish Sky had retained the rights.

I've just checked the arsenal game on my phone, and it got a bit shaky at the 42 minutes mark like martyyn said, so it must be a problem their end.

I watched the entire man utd game yesterday and the quality also suffered around the half time mark. Im pretty sure it got better tho.

Last couple of Arsenal games have been a bit like a flip book for me. I suspect they are winding down now with the rights up for bidding again at the end of this season.

I really hope Sky win this back again and offer EPL in two ways; online only similar to PLP at perhaps the same price or via the subscription with select games on the TV itself and the rest via the new on-demand system they've implemented on the boxes... Win win as far as I would be concerned!
