gjdavies75: Frustrating, isn't it? Also, given that BeIN's own online service isn't ready to go, why wouldn't they allow Sky to broadcast BeIN channel 1 or 2 via the Sky Go service, even as a temporary measure. I have yet to see a decent explanation for the delay, just BeIN's own cut & paste reply which they keep churning out on their Facebook page. As a broadcaster that seems to be a new player in international football broadcasting, they really need to up their game in terms of customer service and communication.

I won't be surprised if the whole operations are managed by SKY to be honest.....

If you don't mind watching the games live, then your best bet is to go to https://www.reddit.com/r/soccerstreams around 15mins or so before the game you want to watch kicks off.

If you want to use a 'catch up' service, http://www.fullmatchesandshows.com/ is pretty good, not the best quality but far from the worst, they tend to be around 480p - 640p in general. I've not paid attention to how soon they get the full matches up on the site as I've never had to use it with PLP last season.

Our first game not on UK Sky this week, be interesting to see what links appear on reddit for the smallest clubs...

I expected this to happen, I think I might have said so earlier in the thread.  This won't be a Sky sly approach as why would Bein not want additional revenue, they simply don't have the economics to stack up local delivery...

In my opinion, this is the future, multinational organisations purchasing local rights and then asking for market price individually; be prepared to pay through the nose for the same content.  We simple trade local 'monopolies' for multinational ones.

Exactly. They've probably run the numbers and decided that it doesn't make sense to run a standalone product, especially when they've already spent 3x more than PLP on the rights. Its annoying, but there's not much you can do about it.

The article does also contradict itself somewhat.

I'm a little lost as to how it doesn't make sense to run the standalone product. The article says that Sky subscribers to BeIN WILL have access to BeIN Connect. So BeIN Connect exists, which means all the infrastructure and technical capabilities are there, why wouldn't they allow non-Sky users to sign up to it? It must be such minimum effort to set up a payment system! Whereas if BeIN Connect wouldn't be available to anyone, then that would make sense to me.

We don't though, there is only one option for Sky subscribers at $11.95 per month; I don't have access to connect at all.  I think the articles bring up old information and then combine it with new stuff... But as far as I can tell, we have access to BEin through Sky and then occasional games through Sky Go.. There is no connect system here in NZ so far, and sounds like there won't be either.

So what are the alternatives other than Sky? I don't mind paying for a service

You currently don't, but the article says you will. If true, then it doesn't make sense. If it stays as it is and BeIN Connect never comes to Sky subscribers then yes it does sound like BeIN don't want to bring anything to NZ themselves. Wait and see I guess.

What is clear is that Bein are terrible at communicating.

Isn't the Australian service based on having a Telstra up address?

I'm really pissed off at this, there is no way I'm ever going to sign up to the legacy sky ecosystem again. I don't want their PVR under my TV.

I was satisfied with the PLP service, it was clear and simple, one product, one price. I don't want to watch their broadcast TV package, I dont want rugby.

Why can't someone just sell me the bloody product

Yep it is, requires a normal sub to get the service, or a ridiculous $70 a month or something for their online package.

I personally feel this is the future for TV, media companies snapping up rights and then it perhaps not working out or charging you lots for access, and with no single place or central application to aggregate together... Rights ownerships and seeking the maximum return will always be present in media and will continue to cause fragmentation and other problems.

Anyway, it is interesting that BEin have done this, not unexpected since they didn't get Australia.  I think that Sky might have gone the PLP route if they had won it.
