Benoire:
Sorry, yes 4.5mbps can be HD as the resolution is what defines HD/SD not bitrate, however I wouldn't consider 4.5mbps anywhere near the correct bitrate for 720p let alone 1080i. I've got an mkv with a resolution of 1920x800 that is 5.3mbps and I can see the blockyness in the dark areas and greys even with high level passing done on the rip...

Suspect your 1920*800 mkv is a 1080p movie that has had the black borders chopped off, hence the lower vertical resolution, thus the bit rate is a bit low. However with the right encoding anything above 3500kbps can easily be 720p, go onto any pirate website and you'll frequently find 720p mkvs encoded at bit rates lower than that.

You have to be realistic. This service provides video at a higher bit rate than any other commercial website in NZ (TVNZ, iSky etc). If you look hard enough you will see artefacts in every encode, its a fact of compression.

The new video suffers from the same poor encoding as the last one, hopefully they fix it. Clearly they are listening though as this is the third preview clip they've uploaded.

I've been an avid watcher of  EPL on SKY  and have always upgraded to ensure I get the best view experience possible  so the last few  years have been with Myski HD and the ESPN .
When I heard the rights had been lost I cancelled my Skysports subscription immediately and listed to all the promises made by PLP.
I then set about test  viewing  streaming  through my PC to TV  and even with the relatively crappy download speeds I get at my house I can watch American and US show in HD with relatively few buffering issues and with much greater quality then this feed from PLP.

I will not be signing up with PLP.

Delayed coverage on SKY is starting to look like a the best alternative

I agree with Zebbie above me.

I cancelled sky-sport the day I heard they had lost the EPL.
As a die hard premier league fan, I really wanted this PLP thing to be a success. I wanted to subscribe to it, and very nearly did on Jul 31st.

Having  invested loads of money on home audio equipment and a huge TV, I too have become accustomed to HD TV in all aspects, including sky sport.

Like many  of you, I have contacted Coliseum, who have confirmed to me that the below average clip which is on their site now, between Man City and Sunderland, is

The current sample video is pretty close to the standard you can expect throughout the season.

To subscribe to this poor quality would be a massive step down for me, and it would show that I condone their attitude where they think they can just stream a garbage quality and expect everyone to be happy with it. I for one won't accept it, and have to take a stand.

I am going to re-subscribe to SKY sport and watch the mighty Gunners battle for 4th place for yet another season, at the new delayed time of 1pm. It hurts me to do it, because I truly love watching the football on a Sunday morning. I just hope that Arsenal get the odd game of the week shown free to air on TV One.

I feel really, really, really let down that these premierleague pass people.
Gutted, and deflated. I cant wait until this nightmare is over!
Pinch me and wake me up now!!

I cannot agree more. Premier League Pass are an absolute disgrace.

I completely agree. I signed up last week once the Telecom deal was offered and have posted previously about the video quality. Anyway, I decided to watch the Man City v Sunderland game over the weekend on my 10" tablet screen. The resolution didn't look too bad at that size but it was a blur when the action was fast moving. I got used to it after a while.

Last night I flicked my 46" TV on to ESPN HD to watch the Liverpool game. OMG I was blown away by how good it looked! Even Liverpool's brand of football looked beautiful... and I'm a United supporter!!!

So I think I'm going to call the Premier League Pass people and request a refund. I loved watching football live or slightly delayed on Sunday mornings, it was my thing, but I guess that will have to change to a Sunday afternoon now. The beautiful game should not be reduced to the ugly video quality that Premier League Pass are offering!

Internet technology is supposed to be improving everyone's experience. I am quite surprised that, having staged such a major coup, they appear to be letting the opportunity slip through their fingers. Someone like me, should be their bread and butter.
I sure hope you can get a refund, RedDevil79NZ, but I don't like your chances.
On that note, given the price they are charging 250 per year = nearly $21.00 per/m, its extortion.

I really hope that there are more people who make a stand against these premier league enjoyment destroyers!

A sneaky piece of marketing. Slow moving footage like shots of the crowd and players in the tunnel looks quite good. Fast moving game play is horrendous though... I doubt they'd want to show that in a sample video!

That is another problem with their site. You will have to clear your cache to make the new video come up. Or open with a different internet browser.

Try clearing your cache, I was watching the sample video that contains the first view mins of the ManCity vs Sunderland game (including the goal) on Saturday.

Perhaps they should modify the video url each time rather than reusing the same url for sample video as a work around - since each game is likely to have its own unique link.

I guess I'm just a bit pissed that I've lost something that was completely convenient; i.e. HD high bitrate with 5.1 sound, easily used on my telly with a remote. I could record the games I wanted and watched them when I woke up. Now I either have to watch them delayed but in the same quality OR a significantly worse quality in an inconvenient manner but when I want. If that's not fragmentation of the viewing then I don't know what is!

I could not agree more.....

I have been in contact with PLP and ask them to "Make me a believer in the quality & convenience of your proposed product…."

Nothing I have seen or read, either here or in PLP's responses answers the above concern. How can I make a potential $240 decision based upon 3 varying quality 10 minute video clips…?

My Sunday morning ritual will now be time-shifted to Sunday Afternoon I guess.....

I must say that I had a go using my laptop yesterday and thought that the quality of the image was actually okay. This was through a wifi connection from a Telecom Technicolour wireless router with an average connection speed of 12Mbps.

Yes it's not in HD but it is certainly watchable and is our only choice for live EPL. I am going to register as I cannot watch delayed coverage; it's just not the same.

@djrm,

You'll find a laptop is 'ok' due to the lower resolution of the screen and higher PPI count of the screen. It's when you connect it to a larger TV that it goes to crap!

Absolutely but it's the only option and they have said that they will be working on SMART tv apps now that many people have aksed for them.
