Those with the platinum pass (I assume it's only for the platinum subscribers) a season preview is up now.

Before I make my final decision, I am going to resurrect my HTPC, which has gone into retirement.
I hope that sending the feed into my AVR, with 1080 up-scaling will work a small miracle on it.

Someone mentioned earlier that there is a 3 hour time slot block for the games, they think the kick off might be closer to 2pm. That's not ideal for me either.
I'm torn as to which way to go. I thought I could like with the delay, but I might not be able to.

Benoire: No, it appears that the HD channels are blocked... However my colleague is an Iraqi so will be signing up shortly with the smart dns... He will allow me to view the HD channels so I will attempt to record some of the stream when I get it.

Try Hola Unblocker plug in and Google a script for Al Jazaeera.

Still no sign of the weekly Premier League World show that is supposed to be included in the Platinum Package though.

I've just signed up for a month for the Openplay DNS service, will try it out with my freinds Al Jazeera account over the weekend and see what the qaulity is like.  IF the on demand is not HD, then in someways there is no point in having Al Jazeera as I'm unlikely to be up for the live games.

The delay for saturday games is 'acceptable', but anything else is just too much for me.  My preference is Al Jazeera as I believe that can be added to onlinevideos in MediaPortal; however if the ondemand aspect isn't HD then I'll see which one is better between Al jazeera and PLP.

Would apprecaite if you could advise what the quality is like compared to PLP.

Good luck with the commentary on Al Jazeera, that alone will give you more of a headache than the picture on PLP ;o)

Of course, will screen capture where I can OR rip out the stream using other programs to compare bitrates, but if you look at the scheduling on Al Jazeera, they have 6 HD streaming channels of which they're all showing saturday EPL Games.

RIght so apparently the Al Jazeera HD bitrate is 4200 kbps. but something that I found out which is pretty cool is this:

What is not advertised as much as it should be, is that each of the premium channels offers up to 13 hours of time-shift ability. This not only allows you to pause live TV, but also to drag the scrubbing slider back the previous 12 or so hours to watch any of the earlier sporting events aired!

So it seems that you can 'watch' the games on the HD channels 'live' by going back in time. This is probably the best option as the On demand content is generally SD at 2400kbps, altohugh they have said that the footy is HD this season.

They offer a one month sub, so I'll probably do that for starters and see how it goes!

I look forward to your report. It sounds interesting.

"In happier news ALL matches in the first two gameweeks will be available ondemand for the week."

What is and is what not on-demand is very confusing - I thought all games were going to be available on-demand each round until the following round anyway?

I think what they mean is that 250 games will be available for viewing throughout the season.

Now there's a confusion on the remaining 130 games that...whether they will be available for 24 hours (from kick-off) or until the next round....

Apparently the broadcast right is that each team can only have 25 games available as on-demand games...
