I have downloaded a few online videos and find that the videos displayed on a streaming website (showing sub-titles), do not display the sub-titles on the downloaded copy.

I have tried varios Aspect Ratios in case the sub-titles were cut off at the bottom of the screen, but to no availe.

Any ideas?

Which movie service are you downloading from? iTunes, Xbox, etc?

Sometimes illegal copied movies will come with a separate subtitle file which the player (such as vlc) will read and show on the screen when its playing. (and you have to turn it on in the player normally)

Another version of the subs is having them hardcoded  in the video file itself which will be over layed on the video which you cannot turn on/off.

Or the subs can be encoded into the video file itself (such as DVD's/bluray etc) which can be turned on/off in the player.

One of the sites that I have downloaded from, is Viooz.co.
I haven't actually checked others at this point. I would need to find another site with specific subtitle videos to check out how they download.
The videos were running in "Applian FLV and Media Player" and I checked that "Subtitles and On Screen Display" were switched ON.

Buy it on blu-ray or something and avoid the hassle of pirated movies not having subtitles... :P

You will bring down the wrath of the righteous ones with this post :)

anyway, if the subtitles are built in to the video, your player software should have something in preferences or play settings to choose a subtitle track.

These days, a video can come bundled with various audio / subtitle tracks but many software players will need to be told exactly what to use.

"-Note that we have no control on the speed as we do not host movies."

Sounds unreasonably legitimate.
