I thought I just downloaded and installed the app and after login on, away it went.

OK - I'll take a look tomorrow.

Change your device region to the US on Amazon.com, then power cycle the Fire TV

Yes, thanks for the memory jogger. That was the very early on advice, along with using a US address and US registered credit card. That's why it just worked from day one!

So got the game controllers the other day. Bought two and one was dead on arrival. And yesterday the Fire TV remote stopped working as well. Not very impressed with the build quality.

I have been using my norwegian MasterCard to pay for content and that was worked nicely until last week, when the Fire TV started telling me I need a US payment setup. Have not yet tried if I can use my Onesmart card with US currency.

Update on my warranty request to Amazon: I am being told that they do not have replacement remote controls, so I will have to return the Fire TV and the remote to get a new set. "Amazing" customer service huh?

I tried the trick someone else had mentioned here: Buying an Amazon gift card with the credit card on file and then adding that to the account. Worked fine.

I gather entropay https://www.entropay.com/ is a solution where payments have to be made on a US credit card.
Saw it mentioned on an Orcon help page.
Seems to provide a virtual credit card that you can top up with your usual credit card.
Seems most US businesses would just see it as a 'local' card.

The gift card is a clever idea though...
