does youshop ship firetv ? i think i read somewhere they rejected a package because of batteries in the remote

You shop have shipped two Amazon Fire TV's to me in the past , they included the two AAA batteries

I bought mine from B & H Photo, they were cheaper than Amazon at the time and shipped directly to NZ.

Having a Geo error with Prime on Fire TV also. Looks like a new version of firmware downloaded to device today. I haven't tried on iPhone or iPad yet.

Don't think it's gotten anything to do with a software update.  I just ran up my old Fire TV Stick on the bedroom TV that hasn't been used for about 2 weeks and get the same geoblock message.  Same on a PC with a US VPN..  If you have access to the Unblocking Services Discussion  forum   have a look in there  rather than here..

I updated my address on the Fire TV back to US address and confirmed in settings and now working again. Interesting that iPad also had a Geo block at first but once I changed the Fire TV it is working again too. I have left Alexa with NZ address so maybe Amazon Prime remembers last address set.

freitasm: New update installed today. It fixed the horrible banner at top that would make it hard to read titles, etc without going into details.

Did this update include the ad banner  in the  menu system??

Yes. I don't mind that. What I didn't like was the top where the hightlights showed - when browsing titles you couldn't read the information because of that area. It now shows the titles' details when browsing.

freitasm:

And now there's a new Amazon Fire TV 4K HDR.

That actually looks interesting. Announced along with a new (cheaper) echo (31 Oct), an alarm clock (echo spot 19 Dec) and a couple of others that escape me at the moment. The Fire TV 4K is released on 25 Oct. I wonder if Amazon's launch in Oz will mean these will be available here without the forward shipping shenanigans.

A  WiFi unit that comes with an optional USB Ethernet port for $14.  Would never buy a WiFi unit only after the last one and trying to set it up with DNS entries.  The Fire TV box is way easier.  Hope this one is easy as well ..

Old ones are fine with custom dns on wifi. Not sure what problems you have but was the same as ethernet for the fire tv when I did it other than having to choose the network and key.
