Has this problem accessing us Netflix occurred for anyone in NZ *not* on Telecom or Vodafone?

It seems Slingshot Global Mode was temporarily affected as well.

Snap appears to be the only one reported as not affected at all.

I can confirm that Slingshot Global Mode definitely IS affected (not temporarily!)

Don't think I've read anyone on xnet/WxC being affected.

Pay attention. The problem is affecting Netflix US, not UK.

dclegg: How are people with problems configuring their DNS? I'm wondering if there is a pattern there. I always configure on a per device basis rather than on my router.

freitasm: DClegg, I tried configuring DNS on router and on device, with same results. Tried blocking Google DNS and others as recommended by the article linked before. Same result.

Exactly the same here, on a per device basis and blocked public DNS at the router. As per my post earlier today, I'm still getting Netflix USA on my Android devices and Windows computers but not on my Bravia TV.

Edit: clarified computers :-)

If you paid really close attention you would have read that I was having trouble with NF UK on ATV - happily that seems to have resolved itself now. ;)

Perhaps, but you also thought that only Snap wasn't being affected, when that clearly isn't the case either. One-all, let's call it a draw. ;)

Ha ha - fair enough - you got me there...

as an aside - any of the people who have volunteered to help test configurations for Uno etc managed to gain any information on what was being looked for?  is there anything we can do to help out

Netflix US on Unotelly on Vodafone is unusable ATM. Occasionally (as in 5% of the time) a movie might load but since NF rarely buffers initially at the right bitrate, you have to manually force things to get HD. This normally works perfectly but the rebuffer now simply stalls and gets nowhere.

Things may not be the fault of Unotelly ATM but unfortunately their DNS-only subscription is in many instances useless for a lot of NZ users at the moment. And no I don't want to/won't be happy with Netflix UK on a permanent basis -- there are some big Star Wars fans here and there are eagerly consuming the Star Wars Battle of the Clones cartoon series and that' not available on NF UK, for example.

Email from unblock-us support...

"You are correct, we are aware of an issue at the moment affecting New Zealand customers. We have run through some extensive testing with some of our customers to work out what is wrong in the hope that we can provide some answers.

It a widespread issue as it's affecting all SmartDNS providers, but only 4 ISP's in New Zealand. We're not getting repeat issues from other regions.
Hopefully we will be able to provide some answers to this shortly."

Not sure if that 100% correlates with other experiences or not, but at least they are looking at it...

From Getflix:

New Zealand Netflix Issue

We are aware of an issue affecting some customers based in New Zealand, who are unable to access US and Canada Netflix. We are currently investigating this issue. Some users have confirmed that Netflix works again after changing the region to the UK or Mexico. This thread http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=151&topicid=146618 contains lots of information about this problem. We will continue to update this page as more information comes to hand.

Those affected might like to know about moreflicks.com which tracks availability of content across the various services and regions. So if there was something you were watching on Netflix USA but can't get to any more you can look it up on moreflicks.com to see if it's available in some other Netflix region.

We know that at least vodafone is aware of this thread. Apart from saying its a co-incidence that telecom also has issues (and both have interests in streaming content), there has been no suggestion of assistance or investigation.

Some sort of international traffic is being clobbered - can the isps confirm that they definitely arent responsible...?

While I know that trying to access something that is geoblocked is not strictly kosher, there is some sort of issue going on. How do we know its not causing some other (as yet unnoticed) issues.
