I got curious about Netflix today.

I have unblock-us.com and it works fine on any PC / laptop with my ISP (Telecom), but I didn't want  mess with the DNS settings every time I wanted to use it.

So I set up a second wifi router connected to my main one and loaded the unblock-us.com DNS addresses into the second router. This way, all I have to do to use Netflix is switch the relevant computer, laptop / tablet or phone to the wifi on the second router.

Getting the Android app was a bit harder. I had to factory reset one f my android devices and then login to a GMail account I created when I was in Canada and only then would Google Play allow me to install Netflix on my android app. Without the factory reset it could still see my NZ Gmail account on the device even though I wasn't logged into it. After the factory reset I also turned off all location information on the device. For good measure I associated the Canadian GMail account with my (Canadian) RBC Visa card...so I can buy stuff.

Once the app was installed I then backed it up with App Monster Pro so i can side load it onto other devices.

It's all working great now....PCs and Android devices.

I just downloaded the apk of the latest Netflix app.:) That way you bypass the google account.

For my windows phone I just changed its region to US rebooted and then like magic the Netflix app appeared in the store.

If I need to find the Netflix app for Android I search for Netflix in the web browser on the Android device then select it from there. Then it lets me install it no problems. Usually works no problem for my Android devices.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

I side-loaded the netflix app, but it seems its only good for one evening and then it crashes and says "unfortunately netflix has crashed...."
I then have to clear the data and load the app again and login. Not something I want to do everyday tbh.

I downloaded the Netflix and Hulu apps from the 1Mobile site and side loaded them on all four Android devices here - Samsung Galaxy Note II, Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, Sony Xperia Z1, Asus Transformer TF101. I get the "unfortunately Netflix has crashed" message occasionally too but only on the Note II which is running a CM11 nightly build. Bit of a pain but, clear cache|clear data works with the minor hassle of having to sign into my Netflix account again.

I consider it a major pain. I'll try some of the suggestions here.

Google Play was telling me - variously - it wasn't available in my country or I didn't have any compatible devices. I also didn't want to download Netflix from anywhere but the Play Store. I did try pushing it from the Play web site, but the site claimed none of my (dozen) devices was compatible.

But once I did a factory reset and logged on via a Canadian GMail account....my device (the reset one) suddenly became eligible.

My device is on Android v4.4.2. The Netflix app is whatever version was available yesterday.  I don't see the problem you describe.

This worked a treat. Thanks!
Hopefully it solves the crashing issues.

I'm also on v4.4.2, but I had an older APK (3.4.2 build 1519) which was giving me issues.
Thanks to TimA's advice, I've now got the latest build installed, so fingers crossed.

If you have an Amazon US account you can install Netflix, Hulu+, Flixster and more from the Amazon Android App Store ;)

I've now got the same problem, just the message has changed to 'Unfortunately, netflix has stopped.'
Its possible that my Phone/ROM is part of the problem. Once I'm signed in, everything works well and I can have big breaks between watching anything, but several hours later, something occurs that upsets the app.

I might be best to try on another device with a different google account.
