We're watching Netflix using UnBlockUS and playing it through a Windows 7 HTPC running Chrome and Silverstripe.

Subtitles don't show for any of the foreign language films I've tried - including "The Intouchables" and "Instructions Not Included".

I've gone through changing the settings back and forth in the player, and altering the sutitle appearance for my account - with no luck.

I've tried using Internet Explorer, but still not subtitles.

Has anyone else come across this/ know how to fix it?

I dont use unblock-us, I use unotelly.
But a quick google shows unblock-us has the facility to block subtitles like unotelly.

Check the unblock-us help pages.
Here is one that sounds like you:

Perfect, thank you.

For anyone else who lands here looking for a solution to this issue:

Under "Step 3" on the UnBlock US homepage there is an option to choose the Netflix region *and* whether captions are supported. Change that and you're good to go.

I get that too with unotelly - sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. It may be my imagination, but flicking between full screen and not full screen seems to work.

been watching Netflix Costa Rica over the weekend (great movies) and found I needed to turn the Uno-Telly toggle for subtitles to 'off' to remove the Spanish subs for English movies

So that's why it is there I guess - handy to have though
