Spotted this on StopPress today: TVNZ to require username/password to access OnDemand.

The article also talks about TV3 being active against ad blockers, and other changes coming up...

well I wont bother with it. Only watch ondemand about once in 6 months and already have enough logins without adding more.  Also if they want to target programs / advertising specific to you as suggested from your registration then must be comprehensive registration to fill out.

I'd be ok with this is we started getting some new features.

Chromecast and Airplay (or ideally an Apple TV app, but will deal with airplay).
Proper 10' interface for computers (with keyboard support, ie so you can use a remote).

And a bit more pie in the sky:
Offline Support.
Roku app

I guess it's similar to us stations needing a cable subscription.

It's the start of paywalls. News websites are also expected to add them soon. I guess it will be a case of who blinks first. I hope they only charge for tablet app and console access, and leave the actual websites with free access at least initially.  somewhat similar to Xbox charging for the convenience of YouTube Skype etc, even though they are free on a computer.

I used to use it often but then they removed the PS3 app in 2013 and said to check back in early 2015. Ridiculous.

Information wants to be free. The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.

Doesn't bother me.
I tried to watch OD with my partner and got geoblocked within NZ.
Turned off all my programs and changed all settings allowing me to watch netflix but oh well.
What they show I can watch elsewhere.

I've never been very impressed with the NZ OD services anyway - they often don't have the programmes I want to watch, and the quality of picture is often poor.

This change is just another reason to download the odd programme I've forgotten to record or which has been recorded with poor reception

I use TVNZ On demand  for a couple 0f episodes of "The 100"  before they aired it here.  Chromecast it to my TV and gave up as  the PQ was so soft.  I decided to wait until they aired it here instead..

I dont get why they insist on all this protection BS for a delayed version of something they have pushed out over the air with no protections already, instead they fence it off behind all the hassle of these annoying propitiatory apps and encryption.

IMO the definition of free to air broadcaster needs to be expanded to make it free over the net with none of this BS. All shows, All platforms.

Licensing.  They don't encrypt and protect it, they don't get a license to make any of it available over the internet.  So either some people get to watch it, or no one does.
