I got it for my mother who uses Youtube all the time, she seems to like it so far.  Also set up Unblock-Us up on the Technicolor router supplied by telecom.  Not too hard using CLI via Telnet.  So Netflix is also now on there.  Quite cool and low hassle.

I also got one. Very easy to setup. Looks cool but haven't had a chance to properly play yet.

Timely thread, I'm thinking about getting one for my parents. I note there are other that's where people indicate they've been able to cast the TVNZ OnDemand site (important for my parents) from a Chrome tab but haven't seen anyone confirmation that video actually streams ok. I'm out of town at the moment so can't try it out on my Chromecast - can anyone confirm OnDemand video streams properly?

I just tried it for you

I think unless they have a very beefy PC and router it won't work in a fluid way.

I tried with a Surface Pro 2 esq performance Dell Venue Pro 11 and playing back TVNZ On demand was about 10 FPS at best on Chromecast.

Widi might perform better for newer Intel Chipsets (like 3rd/4th gen intel chipsets) but is significantly more hassle due to PC needing to run in background (just like cast tab)

If you're looking for something that will do everything, they might like the Amazon Fire TV more as you can side load TVNZ on demand and Netflix...Though you might also need to gift them a wireless Keyboard and mouse because the TVNZ on demand app won't be remote friendly.

I've tried sign up for the Google Play 90 day free trial, but when I get to "agree and next" then "get started" it fails and I get the message "server error, try again later". Have been over 24 hours. Anyone else get this error?

Cheers
Joseph

Hi
I have a Technicolor TG582n, is this the model you use? In Telnet how did you get the Netflix app to work on the Chromecast?

Cheers

Follow this guide, replace the DNS they give in step 4 with the ones from Unblockus or other service
