I'm visiting family for the weekend, and Dad's a football fan who is wishing he could skip a few steps involved in getting his laptop downstairs, wiring it to the TV (Sony Bravia with wifi etc), and watching games on premiumleaguepass.com

Seems like there are iOS and Android (Samsung) apps as well as browser that can play it.

What options can I suggest to ease the experience for him? At least if I get him a Chromecast or Apple TV he can skip plugging a few wires in, but surely there's a better option (which doesn't involve getting a Samsung TV).

Suggestions welcome :D

Does your dad have an ipad? Apart from plugging in a laptop then airplaying with an apple tv is the easiest way. Maybe chromecast if android but I'd try and test with your device before buying as I haven't been able to get the one that my flatmate bought to work with my galaxy tab even though they are supposedly communicating.

Both AppleTV and Chromecast are options, if they work with Premium League Pass. But from what I read, it seemed like the service kinda-sorta-only-a-bit worked on tablets (eg the Premium League Pass app is Samsung only I think).

Might have to hit him up for the login and testdrive with our Chromecast. iPad probably best since it's a decent device to watch from bed.

I totally thought you were a spammer at first, but it's just the forum inserting spammy-looking links on every purchasable device name we mention! BUY SELL MAKE CENTS :D

EDIT: OK the links go away when I log in? Whatever it takes to keep the servers humming I guess.

Samsung Bluray with SmartHub? PLP is on Samsung Smart isn't it?

Pretty sure the BD-H5500 will do it, can be picked up for about the same price as an AppleTV

Awesome I'll check that out instore and see if it behaves. Thanks for the tip - wouldn't have even thought to go hunting an optical device to watch streaming content. Yes PLP are in bed with Samsung.

Had not noticed that re. the turning brands into links before. Might have to start typing names as @pp13 or s*ny.

Anyway, what I meant wrt ipads was that while there isn't an inbuilt app for the apple tv side the airplay works very nicely. Especially if you can plug an ethernet cable into the box to take some of the pressure off the wifi.

While it is technically possible to use screen mirroring from a computer with a chromecast, I've found that this method struggles to keep up and buffers a lot.

Be careful with the Samsung Bluray players as they actually use a slightly different operating system to the TVs for which the PLP app is purpose built for. I remember once seeing a table somewhere on the Samsung NZ website that listed all the apps that worked on particular devices and tv models.

I use the iPad app and an Apple TV for use with my Sony Bravia wifi/smart telly.

There's no easier way to do it, I'm afraid.

No Sony app, Sony browser doesn't support Flash, so can't use that and I'm not that keen on cables.

My only issue is that my wifi router is a bit cheap and cheerful, so doesn't cope with the load, if the kids are also using the wifi at the same time.
Other than that, it's fine...and looks almost HD quality....almost.
