Sounds interesting. I generally avoid TVNZ on Demand as I hate the ads.

It mainly seems like a reskin. But once big omission seems seems to be recently released 'watch first' programs. Previosuly these were listed at the top of the page in order they were released. Now it doesn't show this,so you don't know if there have been new episodes released, unless you go into each program.

Well apparently it was only the most popular streaming device of 2014

Most likely not - I'll have a crack using my wife's tablet a bit later.

It won't play episodes on my Note II running OmniROM either (even with RootCloak) so it's obviously still limited to a select hardware/software set. Funnily enough it'll play the preceeding advert quite happily. At the end of the day, the only thing this means is that I won't be using their service, no skin off my nose.

We all know that if it's not Apple device then it's not worth it to these clowns...

I have looked on the ipad app and android app and no Chromecast support that I can find. Really disappointed.

Also nothing on PS3 yet. It no longer has the default message but it opens a webpage in the browser with links so they might be getting to it at some stage. Lets hope they do.

Not so sure, I still get the usual message that it is not possible to play content via AirPlay or HDMI out for licencing/rights reasons.   You can airplay the commercials at the start of episodes but only the studio plays of the programme content afaik

Curiosity got the better of me, so I have signed up with a disposable email address.
Once I had verified that the email address was "real", I was in.

PROS:

1. nice clean interface
2. no commercials
3. no horizontal black bar on the screen (with AdBlock Plus disabled)

CONS:

1. the programs
2. despite offering "low", "medium" and "high" image quality settings, these appeared to make no difference - it is always lo-res.

(I'm using a desktop PC with a hi-res screen, wired to VF cable 100/10Mbps and am getting full speeds on testing)

Has anyone been able to get hi-res streaming on any program from TVNZ On Demand?

I can 100% guarantee you it was not the most popular streaming device in nz in 2014,not even close (probably not even top 10).

It's only just started to be sold in shops in nz so there will be hardly any around. It makes total sense for them to develop for exosting platforms that have reach right now rather than devices that have virtually no coverage in nz.
You'd have to be an absolute idiot to prioritise chrome cast development over, something like Samsung which will have hundreds of thousands of connected devices ready to play.
