TyroneB: Doesn't seem like they new movies either.

Is this just a sky situation with all old content?

Generally, there are few 'new' movies available on Netflix, but it does vary considerably by region, with many other sites offering a better selection of recent releases compared to the US site; I'm guessing that NZ will be closer to the latter than the former for the age of its movie releases.

I'm not sure if you're a Netflix user already, but if not and you plan to use Netflix through an NZ account it's still worth having a DNS service to be able access the other countries' content - IME, newer and/or more interesting content can particularly be found on the Candian, Brazilian and Mexican sites.

since they aren't charging GST, then it must be assumed to be an import, therefore no NZ consumer protection laws would apply of any kind, whether that's the Fair Trading Act or Consumer Goods Act.

I assume if they advertise on TV, it would have to go through an intermediary or local agency, so FTA would apply to those ads and they could be removed if deemed misleading, but digital advertising (google, facebook etc) wouldn't touch any NZ entity, so they could say whatever they want.

Yes, that's been acknowledged (and is to be expected, really) - the issue, as raised above, is that there's no assurance that this will always be the case, given this is determined by the relative value of the NZ and US dollars.

Its interesting about online advertising, because I regally come across adverts on google from NZ's companies, which would likely not comply with NZ's laws, including not including GST in the prices.

Certainly it isn't a level playing field, if NZ's companies have to pay GST, but overseas companies targeting the NZ's market don't. It would probably make sense for these NZ companies to based themselves offshore, but that doesn't help the NZ economy. Perhaps they should do an advertising campaign highlighting that these companies don't pay NZ taxes, and the disadvantages to NZers with that approach. Eg no consumer protection ender NZ's laws for a start.

Is it possible to move that account to NZ and start paying an NZ subscription or do I have to cancel the account and start up another one?

Basically, can I use the same email address to create my NZ sub?

Yea im wondering this as well. Want to change and pay in NZ $ but dont want to have to sign up again and loose my saved shows and history.

From What I can see you can continue to pay your US subscription and it will work here. of course you only see the NZ content and your "my list" wont work. If you then use Unotelly or whatever you see the US content.

This seems to be what happens when US customers travel to the UK anyway.

Not a us subscriber I currently just use quickflix with the half price for three months thing they offer when you go to unsub.

Looking at the lineup though there's a lot I do like but also a lot of shows with just one season when its a multi season show.

How often do season get put out? Most anime are one season and most shows that are semi recent are only one or two season.

Does "standard definition" mean 480p (720 × 480) or 576p (720 × 576) ?

Does "Ultra-high-definition" mean 2160p (3,840 × 2,160) ?

Having been appalled by the image quality of TVNZ on demand, I am cautious.

If "high definition" means 720p, I'm not interested.

This month I was charged $12.63NZ for netflix thanks to currency conversion charges, bank not giving a perfect exchange rate etc. If you're with a bank that gives a more favourable exchange rate than maybe it would be cheaper, but atm in the real world it's cheaper for me to switch to the NZ version.

Normally if there is a season currently screening, you have to wait for that to finish before it'll appear on Netflix. That's why I have Hulu Plus as well (geo-unblocked with Unotelly) because that shows currently screening but not so much archived stuff. They complement each other.

According to Netflix's website they don't update to a schedule, but they have a New Arrivals page you can check which lets you know what is coming up.
