Hey guys, I have recently bought a HP 200-010 mini pc, and downloaded Kodi.

While streaming 720p videos(haven't tried 1080p yet) i notice it is far worse than a downloaded video file thats 720p. Im unsure if its my computer or internet thats causing the issue, and whether I would benefit from some codec or driver downloads?

I do live rural, and so my internet is not the best.

Any info will be apreciated, Thanks

i'm gonna take a guess at your internet - especially seeing local content is playing fine for you

i have a much weaker machine as my main streamer (ie. xtreamer ultra - atom/ion combo - 4 years old) - and it streams (from good sources mind) 1080p files over the net fine ie. kodi + genesis + wired network + vdsl @ 20Mb/s = 1080p streams all good - and local files off unRAID are of course better again.

q: whats your network like?

is your hp connected to the net over wired or wireless?
what is your connection to the net like - speed wise?
can you stream youtube ok?
what sites don't stream so well?

answering these questions might help you narrow down where the issue is.

Oh sorry I put a speedtest results up in my first Test. Youtubes allgood, haven't tested with 720/1080 though.
Connection is wireless but everytime I test the results are very similar so it seems to be a strong connection. I'm on adsl, don't think I can get vdsl where I am.

Cheers

Never trust a wireless connection for streaming. wink
Try streaming with an ethernet cable and compare quality.

ah sorry i missed the speedtest - thought it was a sig like many have - i should have paid more attention :p

and 5Mb/s ain't great - so quality streaming will be a challenge for you : /

but as sideface said - wired is best so suggest you use this and then identify sites that work and hopefully you can find something that is ok - best of luck
