It's baaaack. Just got an email from TVNZ to advise that their OnDemand app is back for PS3 and also now available on PS4. New features include watchlists, recommendations and pick up & place (resume from where you left off on another device).

Must try it out when I get home tonight.

I wonder if they managed to upgrade to HD?

Yeah, that was so clunky that I just stopped bothering with TVNZOndemand.  Would be good to have it back to watch all the express shows that happen OnDemand long before they're broadcast.

I just remembered I have the UnoTelly DNS in my PS3 so I can watch Channel 4 UK via their app. Anyone know what setting I need to use to make TVNZ work? It won't play on my laptop which also has UnoTelly DNS.

Is it HD? If not then why bother?

Just gave it a test run on my ps3. Interesting choice of colours for log on screen made it tricky for my poor eyes. Main screen looks ok..along the lines of Lightbox standard. Just watching premier league highlights and i would have to say quality is not great..id give it 5/10. Otherwise streams fine and i also have unotelly settings on my ps3 as i watch the UK channels on here.

Watched Season 6. episode 1 of walking dead last night via app on PS3. (Tivo for some reason never recorded it)

Quality much better than the previous web app (last one was unusable IMO), but still does not come close to freeview UHF. I expected to see some adverts but surprisingly there were none. Here are some of the problems we had:

- Every now and again I got a "not connected"error. This was strange, because I was definitely connected the whole time. This only happened while in the menu. Not during streaming.
- It seems that the system is programmed for add breaks. But there are no adverts. The screen just goes black for a few seconds, then it returns and replays the last 10seconds of what you have already seen. No big deal. I suppose I would not notice this if there were adverts.

Other than that its a great improvement. Especially the quality. We will continue using it for things that the Tivo misses and should have recorded.

Not a good first start. Had to change my password because their custom keyboard didn't give me access to one of the special characters in my old one. Also: Why have a custom keyboard? The built in PS4 one is far faster to use (and probably wouldn't have required a password change).

Haven't watched a full show yet, but picture quality looked OK. Not as good as our other SVOD options, but definitely workable.

So you can leave a custom DNS on the PS3, and both UK apps and the TVNZ app work fine?  Have you tried US ones like Netflix or Hulu?

I have my PS3 setup to work for Hulu, US Netflix, and UK BBC iplayer via getflix.com.au.

There was no issue using TVNZ on demand. Did not need to change anything.

Fully agree on the colours - awful.
I had to setup TVNZ OD on my parents DishTV satbox. Had to stand up and walk up to the TV so I could see properly - that Avocado green and White is not a good colour choice.

Oh man, I got excited as I'm presently trying to catch up on a few episodes of TV1s The Player series.  Which looks suitably sht but I like the guy from Strike Back, which has now finished for good and I miss it.

Anyhow, I'm using an older MacBook to TV via hdmi converter and thought it would be cool to use the PS3 for this instead.  It's presently not Chromecast capable.

By the time I got to the bottom of this thread the vibe seems to be its average.  That's probably to be expected though because the base stream quality is average on their system anyway.

I'll give it a go, but their last effort at this was terrible.

No, but I understand the UX folks in TVNZ are professionals....

Yes, all the UK apps and my US Netflix work fine with the TVNZ app..and also Lightbox.
