Hi,

I am looking for a cheap device to stream Spotify to a set of speakers in my bedroom which are hooked up to a TV in the same room.  I want to be able to use Spotify Connect on my iPhone to control what is being played via the speakers, but as the speakers are across the room from my bed, I don't want to use my iPhone obviously.

The TV in my bedroom is a smart TV with the Spotify app, but it is a pain to search for and queue music via the remote.  And I don't want a keyboard and mouse in the bedroom.

Would one of the cheap $40 Android phones do the trick?  Or is there a better device at around the same price I could opt for.  I'd rather have a device directly connected to the speakers (via a small amp with the speakers) than use bluetooth which doesn't give the same results sound quality wise.

Cheers.

I'd just get Chromecast audio, more money but a simpler solution

Spotify on a phone sucks to send to.

App will close on its own and not be available to send to. Cant do volume on it like a chromecast or fire tv.

The chromecast is better since you dont have to open the spotify app on it, the fire tv you have to open it and then it will let you send to it. Also no analog out on a fire tv, which the chromecast audio has.

B&H have a decent deal on a twin pack of them.

Http://volumio.org  - on a raspberry pi.

Has a web interface to control it....or you can just use airplay.  Much cheaper than a dedicated device which probably start at about $200 ($500 for Airplay compatible ones).  But then again Apple TV3 hooked up to an amp?  Limited to airplay, but a good audio connection with the optical out.

Thanks guys.  The Chromecast Audio looks like a very suitable solution (albeit more expensive than I was thinking but that isn't a major).

@richms - can you please provide a link to the twin pack?  I cannot seem to find it.

I believe that was just a Christmas sale. I do remember seeing it however all the sites I've seen it on don't sell the twin pack anymore.

Yeah the link to the product on my order now redirects to the generic media player page :(

It wasnt a pack either, just 2 standard audio chromecasts in a box.

Whereabouts did you purchase it from, and were you able to have it shipped to NZ directly or did you have to use a re-shipping service?

I'm interested in getting one for my son at some point to modernise the stereo in his room.

Speaking of which - are there good Android apps to select and play music stored on a NAS from a phone? While he'll be listening mostly to Spotify, I imagine, we've still got all our CDs ripped on the NAS.

I just purchased one from PBTech in the end using my employee discount (all of $5 but $5 is better in my pocket...).  I could have got one for $20 cheaper from B&H had I been bothered to wait 10-15 business days for delivery but I decided it wasn't worth the wait.  Plus the PBTech unit has a NZ USB power adaptor included saving me a few extra bucks as well.
