What are people planning to use to stream the super rugby season this year?

 

Fanpass is the obvious option, but at $56 a month works out more expensive than I'd like.

 

For me an ideal offer would be about $20-30 a month ($150-200 for 6 months maybe).

 

I'd be happy to pay less to only watch my team and the finals - I really don't have time to watch 2 or 3 games a week.

It's a pack that worked under the Fan Pass original model where you get all games LIVE and replays on Super Rugby matches only, that's what I looked at this time last year although could be different now.

Yep, just as Josh said.  Like almost every sports streaming offering (PremierLeaguePass for example) you get access to live streaming games and then access to replays after the event.  

 

Last year FanPass offered it for Super15, NRL and Formula 1.  As we count down to kickoff in each of these sports it remains to be seen whether they get offered as a product.  And who knows, if Sky gets English Premier League back then it might end up on FanPass.  Same delivery company, different rights owner.

Well, I am probably lucky that my inlaws don't have sky so we cancelled sky, got a deal at their place for 12 months, then we will cancel sky and get a deal at our place for 12 months, rinse and repeat.

For those that have used Fanpass, I am used to Sky's 1080i HD. How close is Fanpass 720p?

@tdGeek On UFB viewing on my 42" plasma via chromecast 2 I find Fanpass really good.

 

I'd trial it for yourself - best to wait to the have a free day (or pay for one day) and see how it goes in your environment.
Put it this way - I am happy to spend money on it.

 

(Edit:I just saw that Fanpass has free highlights you can use to trial it - signup see if they work OK, I've never used the highlights but the Fanpass FAQ says they are available)

 

As an aside it may well be under $200 to use Fanpass to just watch your teams game for the season, getting it on the daily rate at $15 a day.
16 games (excluding byes)
less the weeks I go to watch the home games live
less the weeks I can't make it because of other commitments
less the games I watch at a mates house or the pub
less the games at 2am where I hear the result and don't want to watch the replay.
less the games that fall into a 7 day window and I can pay $20 for 7 day pass to watch 2 games.

 

Realistically I'll need to pay for about 9-10 days at most- so that's $130-150.00 for the year (plus finals  - which I would watch with mates anyway)

 

If they had a way to watch replays on demand that would be nice, but I think daily hires on demand may be the go.

 

Is there a reasonable quality overseas service?

MLB got sued for the blackout rule - not sure whether its translated to changed availability for other codes as yet.  But given we dont really have blackout rules in NZ (imagine how full a stadium would be if we did!) it may not be used in NZ.  Who knows?  Someone would have to even offer a TeamPass in NZ first......

Bad news for all the season pass wannabes.....  From the FanPass FAQ's:

 

 

 

Will Season Pass be available in 2016? We don’t have plans to release Season Pass for the 2016 season at this time. All Season Pass sports will still be available to view live on SKY Sport 1-4 via FAN PASS. You can see our current Pass line-up here: http://fanpass.co.nz/packages?type=0

 

 

 

Suggest phone call and email bombardments to get the fix you want.  Cos anything on a popup (and I'm thinking Formula 1 additional views, practice sessions etc) wont be on Sky Sport 1-4.  

 

 

 

EDIT:  And I notice that the season pass has disappeared completely from the FanPass homepage.

Err well if you aren't a NEW customer, then you ALREADY have access to Sky, and presumably if you don't have Sky, then you could take advantage of the new pricing and be better off all around!
