2degrees announce exclusive partnership with TIDAL

2degrees has announced an exclusive partnership with global, experiential entertainment platform, TIDAL to offer students the monthly music service, alongside its $19 Carryover Combo.

An artist owned platform, founded by such notable names as Shawn "JAY Z" Carter, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Madonna and Coldplay, to name a few, is built for fans and artists around the world. TIDAL members enjoy exclusively curated content, most recently a surprise release from Beyoncé prior to the halftime of the Super Bowl, Kanye West's, "The Life Of Pablo" and Rihanna’s latest album, "Anti."

Offered as part of 2degrees’ Student Perks, a 12 month subscription to TIDAL’s monthly music service will be included together with its $19 Carryover Combo.* Students will also get an additional 500MB of data with every $19 Carryover Combo purchase.

2degrees Head of Product and Pricing Gavin Costello, says: “We are incredibly excited to be the only NZ telco to offer students TIDAL’s monthly music service, which paired with our Prepay $19 Carryover Combo will make the perfect combination this year for students.”

Shawn "JAY Z" Carter added, "Our expansion into New Zealand and partnership with 2degrees demonstrates TIDAL's commitment to provide hi-fidelity sound, an extensive catalog of music, videos and original programming to a global community. TIDAL welcomes the opportunity to connect with a new audience of music lovers and creatives."

Students must have registered for 2degrees’ Student Perks programme, and must keep their $19 Carryover Combo active to continue receiving access to TIDAL and bonus data. Students will need to fill out the student online form using their ac.nz email to verify their account. Alternatively students can take their student ID into any 2degrees store to receive a free Student SIM.

I would take spotify any day over this. Sounds like grasping at straws TBH.

Have you tried Tidal? Mind you, I have used the Tidal (when it was called Wimp, before Jay Z et al bought it), and I landed on Spotify.

Tidal does have the "hi-fi" service (not the one provided by 2degrees, I am pretty sure), where the stream is uncompressed CD-quality audio, for those that think they can hear the difference.

Pretty good library, and they do have exclusive content from the people involved.

I have not seen tidal on any home theaters or wifi speakers. Spottify has the devices.

Why do they always pick weird platforms to bundle? Neon instead of Netflix, Tidal instead of Spotify or Groove. Ah well as a once poor student this should be very welcome for some of them.

Nice little bundle - can't argue with something for free (although I suppose after 12 months and then also the related data charges etc)...but still....would be nice to see the benefits rolled to the wider 2D customer base too....or maybe we are getting too many perks as it is...hold on what were those again? :\ :P

Probably due to cost and 'mainstream' platforms having pre-existing agreements. Competition is good.

if you want to give your customers a music option, and you decide on spotify,  they know they are the most popular by far and so can demand pretty hefty payment from you.

If you go with a service that has almost no subscribers and is desperate for customers (Tidal, Neon, Quickflix),  you'll be able to negotiate a much cheaper price.

On their site it says "Already an existing customer? Check back later for how to get this offer!"

Doesn't mention student so they well may be going to open it to all?
