I've bought a media streaming box from the UK that is only intended for use in the UK, but it is proven to stream to NZ with a DNS blocker.

However, to activate the box it is first necessary to log into a UK site, create a free username and password and enter that information into the media box, to bring it to life.

The problem I have is that the UK website detects my IP address is not in the UK and displays a message that registration is only possible within the UK. I've tried using several IP masking programmes and set them to a UK IP address but none of them have worked as I am still being detected as not being in the UK.

Can anyone please suggest how to I might present myself as being in the UK so I can create an account to allow me to activate the media box?

I am currently using a free week-long trial of Unblock-US and that certainly allows me to stream BBC iPlayer to my PC, I just need to activate the media box so i can stream to my TV.

Thanks for any advice.

Tunnelbear free perhaps? You will probably need a VPN to do a registration rather than just a DNS unblocker.

AS above VPN will be required. One with a UK server that is.

You'd have to use a VPN. How that would actually work might be something like connecting the device to a network on which a PC / laptop / whatever is the default gateway sharing its internet access and it, in turn, sees the Net through a VPN to the UK using Hola or whatever. You would uninstall Hola when done as it may be free, but you pay for that by them  (reportendly) using your bandwidth without asking. You could then put the activated device back on your 'normal' network and see if it works.

I note other have said to use a VPN, but didn't give any hint as to how that might be configured. You may not know.

I said tunnelbear. Doesn't get simpler than that for a VPN.

Another possibility is Tor. Not meant for streaming but would be okay for something like this. You can tell it to only use a UK exit node.

I'd use Hola, then turn it off / uninstall it soon as job was done. It's simple to use, often works when other solutions don't, and should suit your one-off sign up purposes fine. But not for regular use for the reasons outlined above.

I want to thank everyone for their ideas about a UK VPN. The suggestion to use HOLA worked perfectly.

I created a Hola account, set it to point to a UK VPN, was able to register my media box successfully and get it all working. I then uninstalled Hola.

Thanks again everyone.
