Funnily enough, it looks like the site has been taken down/crashed.

Also funny to me is that it's not just sky who will be on the case here - it's also Team Kodi - and that just wouldn't be good nor clever to piss those guys off!

https://torrentfreak.com/kodi-announces-legal-action-to-smash-piracy-links-160215/

A quick view on the whois record shows its owned by Shopify;

http://whois.domaintools.com/byebyesky.com

so if I were Sky I would start off with an easy win and go after Shopify (as that would also directly damage their other hosting customers, which would immediately force them to remove all byebyesky info)

The funny thing to me is that since ditching Sky completely and saving nearly NZ$100 per month, I miss absolutely nothing of any of their channels..

I find it amazing that "cord cutters" would go and "cut the cord" and then go looking at these poor quality Kodi boxes to satisfy their viewing habits - either cut the cord properly or renew your Sky sub.

Yeah technology eh - it's a laugh!

Well it looks like he did not like the heat of the news story and pulled the plug on the shop currently.

Doing some quick working out

Sold 450 in the last couple of months @ $120 for 1gig ram (150 for 2gig ram)

450 * $120 (lets say all devices were 1gig ram)

= $54,000

54k - $50 per unit (aliexpress but would have also got a discount if buying in bulk).

 = $22,500

54k - 22.5k = $31,500.  Nice little earner for just over 2 months

Wonder if he paid GST and Tax on them.

Lol, looks like he's disappeared already, that did not take close to a year as I predicted.

You can still find his linkedin page though

I guess the next logical step is to declare war on China and stop all these illegal devices being imported.

Is it a NZ company that was selling them? I know they were being dropshipped from china, no sense running something doing that as a NZ entity if there are places that give better tax outcomes.

The Kodi team is certainly unhappy with the hords of pirate-like addons.

Some Kodi platforms are in danger of not being supported any more from the sound of it.

I suppose all that 'customisation' starts to get too tempting for some people.

There is now a Kodi branch that has clobbered the addon functionality and is maintained by a team. Because it has that hacky add-on stuff disabled it has been allowed by a few official 'stores'. I am thinking here of the MrMC product that Amazon allows officially for the Fire TV. Think it costs you $7 or there abouts.

I doubt they are doing anything much in the way of local customisation. I have seen them advertised on the Chinese sites with a host of 'free' movie content already installed.

I don't think those devices are pre-loaded with pirated channels when they left China. most of those plugins are blocked probably won't work due to censorship anyway.

ByeByeSky and MyKiwiStream discussed in another forum seem very similar. How long before MyKiwiStream goes? MyKiwiStream may not have had the same publicity as ByeByeSky so is lasting longer.
