This all appears like, launch a service without actually launching it.

Have signed up to the service. Tried to install Amazon prime video on my 2014 4K Sony tv. The app is not available if the tv is set to the NZ region. If I change the region so the TV thinks it is in the US, I can install the app and stream successfully (in 4K as well), however, lightbox no longer works. If I then change the region back to NZ, lightbox works, however, the Amazon prime video app is no longer available.

Would be nice if they enabled the app in the countries they have supposedly launched in.

Sadly, getflix doesn't support NZ as a region to switch to, therefore, I have to log onto the router and edit my entry for dnsmasq to change back to the NZ region. Hopefully they will sort it out sooner rather than later as I won't continue if I have to do this workaround.

It seems to work nicely for me on the ipad. Have it streaming to the ATV 4 using air play. Similar to the tvnz on demand app.

You can order the Amazon Fire TV from B&H Photo who do ship to New Zealand. That's where I bought mine from.

Pretty limited catalogue, will be able to watch everything I want within the 7 day free trial. Definitely a service I will use in the future as more amazon original content is added. Streaming services make it easy to join/cancel as content is added/exhausted.

I have had a US Amazon Prime account for a little while ,but only installed the Amazon app a couple of weeks ago on my Android tablet.

When I use a DNS service it works fine, but when I switch back to my ISP settings it says I'm using the wrong account.

Does "anytime, anywhere" mean something different to Amazon?

As part of their preparation for this it seems Amazon made some changes to their geoblocking. I too have Prime but have noticed differences in what can be viewed now and had a perfectly good US VPN (a hosted Mikrotik router) that no longer works for accessing Prime.

I too have a Sony Smart TV circa 2013.  It has most of the usual suspect of apps including Netflix but as of last night no sign of any Amazon branded apps.

Seems like a bit of a half arsed launch compared to Netflix where apps were available on almost all compatible platforms prior to their NZ launch date.

What location do you have it set as I see there is USA, USA-LA or USA-NY.

Thanks for any info.

I have a Chromecast - not supported  by Amazon's app.  I have an Xbox One - Amazon Video app not available in NZ.  Screwed if I'm going to buy yet another gadget to play this on my TV.

Seems a bit premature to release this without an eco system to support it.

They don't have an app for android TV (probably due to them running the firestick, fireTV etc).

BUT... If you have a Sony (2015+) android TV (and probably nVidia shield), grab the latest Amazon Video APK from apkmirror.com, install it from a USB stick, and enjoy originals in UltraHD and HDR without having to do anything except signing in. DON'T FOLLOW THE BS RUNAROUND on XDA for "Prime Video Launcher". It's a bucket of fail.

It even shows as Sony Android TV in my registered devices.

Now back to the show! (notice the red circle telling you what quality it's running)
