Hi guys

So after months of deciding to buy a shield tv I have gone ahead and ordered one from Amazon.
For you owners any tips on setting it up for NZ? Must have apps etc?
Also do you use a travel adapter to change from US to NZ power?

Thanks

I played around with UK and US but decided just to use my NZ account.

Just use an adaptor and plug in to NZ power socket.

I use netflix and Kodi on it and that gives me more than enough.

Love my Shield.

NF, YT, Amazon Prime and Vimeo give me 4k material. (NZ Accounts only.)

Other video apps I use incl the usual TED, RedBull, Vevo etc.

Prefer SPMC (to Kodi) as it allows HD Audio ie. DTS:X and ATMOS - also allows voice search. Usual addons in use.

Spotify, Google Music and CloudRadio (for Soundcloud acct access)...for music.

Cast Lightbox from Ph and SkyGo from Chrome on Windows PC.

Old school gaming via Mame4Droid - using their gamepad.

Have an original Shield so installed an SD card as internal storage so I could install other Android Games - drivers , shooters etc for casual gaming.

Has been bulletproof and reliable - highly recommended.

Also integrated with My Harmony Touch (using the shields IR sensor) and various macros - and works great.

Best tech purchase I have made in recent years.

Note: Only downside has been the pissant battery in the remote supplied remote which needs charging more frequently than I would like.

Do you leave it charging overnight for a good 6+ hours? Make sure you put it somewhere that doesn't move or get bumped when it is not in use. My kids can flatten the remote battery in about a week, The remote I use lasts a good 3-4 weeks and it sits on the table when not in use.

I would suggest that you set it up, have a look around and see what you like, do not like. There are so many options and trial and error will be the way to sort it out for the first few weeks.

My Setup gives me a lot of options but I primarily use SPMC for all media, with fall back options for Emby and Plex. The Kids use Youtube and fall back to SPMC.

Use SPMC as others have said, its forked by the original Kodi android maintainer so its more fluid and works better with Android TV than Kodi does.  I've got a Mi Box as a test unit and its much faster than kodi on that limited hardware.
