Coincidental with the shooting at YouTube headquarters in the US yesterday, the YouTube app on my SONY Bravia Smart TV now hard hangs my TV if I try to use it.

I have to unplug the TV from the mains power to reset it.

Anyone else seen this since yesterday? It was working fine evening before last.

Anyone know if I can do a factory reset?

Hardly any of my "Smart" features work on my Sony smart 3D TV now.

I can use Netflix occasionally and that's about it these days.

tend to indicate it is some form of authentication problem, clearing personal details and caches appear to fix it ( in at least some cases)...

A while back my Bluray player stopped working with You Tube. It was the inability to play adverts which meant it stopped working with the service...

EDIT: Bluray player was a Sony BTW

My Sony smart tv won't launch Netflix or YouTube apps even after a factory reset - ah well I only use the Chromecast anyway.

How old is the TV? Lots of devices lost YouTube support around 18 months ago due to the changes with YouTube.

Smart TVs mean built-in obsolesce. My sony tv smart functions are also all dead these days. Maybe they only expect a tv to last 3 years before you buy another, as I am guessing the policies over how long they should last are written overseas. Maybe sony should give everyone a chromecast instead to plug into it, at least they last for many years and more apps support it. Or they could update the built in software to use new APIs that companies like youtube now use.

I have learnt (the hard way) that smart TV's quickly become dumb.

Support for apps is rare to non-existent.

Hence why Ive never recommended a smart TV to anyone I know, rather that they get a dedicated external box to do the smart stuff such as a NUC.

What year is your sony?

Have you tried software update.

There was one recently. I caught it in time else my family would have simply ignored it to the point where they would have intteruppted the update causing further mess.

Have you tried going through the menus, factory reset and then running software update?

Edit, you can also use the app store to update youtube, but best you have the tv settings auto update apps.

I have a KDL42W800A which started doing that (Youtube app stuck on the Youtube logo) around the same time as the OP. The software was already the latest version, and the refresh internet content action didn't help.

In my case, a factory reset did fix it.
