Hello everyone, My husband is seventy and I am sixty three, we're comfortable with routers and wireless, downloading apps and apple tv, wiring on a TV and so on, not 'at sea' with technology at all, but we have been stuck with Sky for too long and need to ditch. Our contract is up and we have Fibre. I am an American News junkie since Trump and want access to CNN, also need to record to our DVD recorder or use something like Hulu Cloud because of the time differences. I don't mind paying, but I don't want more than I need and don't know how to find a package. I'm looking to hear of someone with similar experiences to talk me through it, there's almost nothing online

Looks like cnn uses cable tv credentials for access. Quite hard to get access to unless you have someone in the states willing to share account with you.

Hulu (if it’s on there) might be an option, but Hulu is quick hard to get on, they don’t (or didn’t) accept nz credit cards, then you’d need a service for making it look like you were in the states.

Sorry no really simple option as far as I know.

The trick with Hulu is figuring out how to pay for it. Most NZ CC's won't work nor will Travel Cards. Another option is to buy vouchers from the likes of eBay but that comes with all sorts of issues. You will also need to use a SmartDNS solution to allow you to access country restricted content (such as Hulu). There is a private discussion board where this is best discussed. If you ask @michaelmurfy he may invite you.

That's a bit deflating, but I will hang it out there. Hulu Plus Live looks like another option but may be too hard to get

Paying via PayPal might work. I've seen a couple of references to that. I won't bother Michael Murfy, as old farts are probably his worst nightmare

I've added you to the private forums where there is some information in regards to Hulu for you. You can find it at the very bottom of the forums link above. Feel free to ask questions in there. The guys are not too willing to speak in public about this as companies like Hulu do keep a close eye on forums to block methods used to gain access (and we'd much rather keep our access working).

Thanks Michael Murfy. Don't want to cramp anyone's style, just sick of re-runs of Amanpour five times a day, daughter is a political lobbyist and daughter in law from Texas. And when you know it can be done, you just wonder how.

I am aware of at least one other option for CNN (because I use it). Open up a thread in the Private forum if you are interested in exploring options other than Hulu for CNN.

Hulu is a bit fiddly to set up but definitely achievable. However I use a simpler method of viewing CNN, MSNBC etc. Would be keen to access the private forum if possible @michaelmurfy

Sling TV is much better than Hulu. I’ve been using it for years in NZ and love it. Also includes BBC and MSNBC etc.

I'd love to hear about how people managed to get Hulu in NZ. I had it a few years ago, and like others say, making payment was the hardest. @michaelmurfy - any chances of an invite?

@McMatt done.

To everyone else - I am not adding any new members without a post history. In otherwords, if you PM me asking for an invite and you just created an account on here then you're not getting in and not even getting a reply from me. I'm only saying this since I've had a fair few people do just that.

Purchasing iTunes vouchers has worked for my Hulu account, it's a pain but I followed recommendations on this site re: the best way to achieve this.

Hulu has been a little unreliable from time to time, but I like it enough to now have the advert free option.
