Whats that got to do with it? Optus's tech was the issue. Here the issue is IF Spark Sport will be online to air F1, the answer has been stated a few times that it will be. Two totally different topics

Panic Stations = stand down :-)

Sorry TD but we can't really take Spark at their word given the total vacuum of communication and the "oh well" approach to the WRC coverage. I think they were bloody lucky that Paddon wasn't lining up this year, or else it would have been a PR disaster.

They knew they would miss this deadline. They could have made an alternative arrangement or even offered it up for free through a browser as a teaser even if the app/platform proper wasn't ready yet. Instead a whole of people had to seek them out and actually ask the question. That's poor and I will struggle to believe they'll be ready for F1 even if they swear they will be.

AS far as I am aware, there was no date, it was early 2019. There are other sports that are missed as they are starting soon, some of them are on TVNZ, who partner with Spark. Those that aren't on TVNZ I can only assume are rights issues. It's only my assumption but rights issues screw a lot of things up. The previous posts to f1 show that.

Ive got an open mind, it will be up and running by 14 March, as that's when F1 starts, bound to be sooner.

tdgeek: Who said that?  F1 has not started. On this or another thread it shows Sparks response to some sports that have or are about to start and how to watch them in the interim until Spark Sport is ready. F1 was not one of them. F1 starts in just under two months, 14 March

Barcelona testing starts in three weeks and it's live on F1 TV Pro. Spark isn't going to provide it so I'm simply asking F1 if they can enable NZ subscriptions in the meantime.  It can't be that hard, and I'm willing to pay.

Can you recall the amount of testing Sky aired?

EDIT

The testing I watched was provided by some Linux ISO service I think.......

Hi,

Does anyone know whether Spark Sport will be 'live-only' or also 'on-demand'?

Its gonna be hard getting up for a 2am F1 race during a working week - will it be available the following day on-demand?

Cheers

Spark Sport is a new sport streaming service that will bring top global and local sport to New Zealand - LIVE and On Demand. The service will be available early 2019

Hard for foxtel to offer streaming services in NZ unless it chooses to buy rights for NZ.

Impossible. Sports rights are sold per country, and Kayo (owned by Foxtel) have zero rights in New Zealand (which are generally owned by Sky, TVNZ or Mediworks),

But all is not lost. I use PIA's VPN, and can happily stream Kayo Sports to both my Chromecasts (Ultra or 3rd gen are required for 1080p quality). Just be aware that some NZ domestic events are not covered on Kayo (White Ferns and BK Super Smash among them), and some events are not coverage at all (Australian Summer of Tennis, State of Origin, AFL and NRL Grand Finals), where other Australian netwoks have the rights. In those cases, the app from the respective network can be used (except AFL Grand Final, but that;s live on TVNZ Duke).

F1 Testing is being shown on F1 Pro. But F1 Pro is geoblocked in NZ because Spark Sports have the rights. I guess I count this as 'missing out' on F1 coverage if we're blocked from something Spark is choosing or unable to show when it's happening.

Also, it's round two of the WRC this weekend. Still no announcement.

Hey GV

Not sure thats correct. The geoblocking is because someone has the rights in NZ. If Sky had them, the same would apply

I might be wrong but I don't recall live F1 testing in previous years? I think highlights may have been on SS later. However I do see live testing is now on SkySports F1 in the UK. That may mean the coverage that we will get once its ready might well be more than what we had before.

There has been an announcement. To recap, it will be ready for F1. Other sports that have already started have info on how to watch them in the interim. A Spark person here has implies testing begins soon, so you would not expect it to be ready in a few days. The testing as per the video is based on functionality only, not performance. Prices not known, that's commercially sensitive I assume. While all this is not what you are looking for, its the latest announcement, its a matter of waiting.

I get where you're coming from, but as this is the first year of testing is being shown live through FOM's own channel, it's disappointing to not have it as part of the Spark offering given that they are the official broadcaster for the region and we can't access it otherwise.

This kind of thing is why I'm reluctant to buy a WRC+ subscription for a year; it works now, but will it still work when Spark Sports launch?

I follow you now, I think. While it will be clearly too late, once its released we can ask if it would ave included testing. You would expect its in FIA's interest to allow FOM to release all content to all other regional rights holders. Same applies to any extra feeds. We dont actually know if its included in Spark's F1 as Spark Sport isn't released yet. So its either not included, or it is, but Spark isn't up yet. The former I would be surprised, and its likely a FIA/FOM issue, the latter Im not surprised.

I assumed that you could get WRC for a shorter period, or do you mean that you dont want Spark Sport, but that may cut you off your direct to WRC app?  Id expect non Spark WRC to not work, thats normal.

My understanding is WRC+ All Live is a bit unique and doesn’t geo-block anywhere in the world, probably because the full coverage is way much more than any tv network is ever likely to carry. (Basically covers every stage, service etc).

From the website :

“WRC+ is available worldwide without any geographical restrictions. For any further questions, please contact“

And monthly subscriptions definitely available. If you are into rally, I’ve found signing up for All Live pretty awesome compared to the 3 - 4 stages we used to get on Duke.

Anyone reckon we might get more details or a launch on Wednesday?

It'd be the sort of thing to do at Sparks interim financial results announcement....

Keep in mind, the NZNOG video does indicate there will also be NON LIVE content available to supliment live events. It's not purely a live-stream service.

So it may well be that all these leadup WRC and F1 shows are currently being dumped to CDNs, and may be readily available for catchup at launch.

Awesome, thanks. I might give that a go if we still haven't got anywhere by Rally Mexico.
