Does anyone know if Spark is bothering to cover the Black Sticks (hockey) games played in Tokyo this weekend?  I only found out given the published results in the newspaper and the Spark Sport website has NO indication of the games.

Or the tournament in Rockhampton vs Australia next month?

From last years press release:

"Spark announced today it has won a four-year deal for FIH (International Hockey Federation) media rights in New Zealand. These rights include the Hockey World Cup, the Hockey Pro League and Olympic Qualification, plus rights to the National Hockey League. All rights are for live and on demand coverage of both women’s and men’s competitions from January 2019 to the end of 2022 and include all Black Sticks fixtures."

But it seems that its not all Black Stick fixtures.  And instead the NZ public have no coverage of the games.

I just look at a story like that and wonder how Spark can let something like this be written, and more importantly why Spark aren't demanding it be corrected. Misinformation like this does them serious harm.

As updated on twitter. Our folk that deal with this are engaging stuff to update the article.

It was misleading and confusing.

That whole article was an absolutely terrible thing to go out.

Perception here seems to be spark gave the green light for that to be published....

Not sure if it’s been mentioned earlier, but as an alternative ESPN + is $4.99 USD per month.
I watched the AB’s game the other night and according to the RWC website ESPN is listed as a broadcaster for the event.

Received an email yesterday offering me Spark Sport free for 2 months. Offer expires at the end of the month.

I purchased the earlybird RWC package couple of months back but didn't subscribe to Spark Sports monthly plan.

When a story is full of "a Spark spokesman says" comments then yes, I do take it as Spark giving the green light for a particular viewpoint to be published.

I highly doubt Stuff just happened to have somebody who suddenly thought "gee I should run a story on HDMI comparability for Spark Sport" when it's very clear the journalist who wrote the story doesn't even have a basic technical understanding of what he's trying to write about.

The story has since been changed online several times but if still a huge disaster and simply adds fuel to the hate towards Spark and Spark Sport. Public perception right now is that the Spark Sport RWC coverage is going to be a disaster, and the lack of guidance and comment from Spark Sport particularly around recent issues has be beginning to move to that side of the fence.

Spark Sport are like many politicians who suddenly win power. They didn't expect to win the bid so don't really have a serious plan.

The way I see it Spark Sport doesn't know what is going to happen and like managers who don't know about leadership but try to guide by force is now in panic mode because they think they don't have control over outcomes.

Just saw something on the AM show where Spark Sport said app issues and lack a of instructions are not their fault.. its the app developers fault because they want to clip the ticket and have people sign up via the app

But in reality, they just don't want apple/google to take the 30%.

When will they stop blaming everyone else and take responsibility, any issue seems to have been blamed on a third party

The  Newshub poll said only 14% of people are prepared for the World Cup on Spark.  Big rush at the end or lots of social media outrage because people could not  be bothered to sort it out before the RWC starts.

Sparks content inventory costs increased by $22m over the last twelve months.  This represents the value of content that has yet to be broadcast.  And as Lightbox content hasnt materially increased (in fact its probably diminished given the lower number of new titles) this suggests that Spark has got $22m of sports costs across F1, EPL, and RWC.

Thats a good chunk of money to be recovered especially as the new corporate position is that the RWC wont make money - and the great white hope is that subscribers will stick around (basically susbcribe to SparkSports) for other sport content.

It looks like the match you are talking about is an Olympic test event,  I don't think this is included in the FIH rights that Spark has.

The tweets suggest that its an FIH event - BlackSticks are retweeting the FIH feed.  Would be odd for FIH to carve out some matches from an exclusive 4 year broadcast deal.
