Hi all, so I listened to the Checkpoint interview with the CEO this afternoon on my way home, does this guy really think we are all stupid, his response is totally unbelievable, surely he kmnew well in advance that there was spectrum they could use should they want, all he had to do was present a case to the minister to start the ball rolling, if he did not, he is clearly imcompenent and would have had no understanding of the history of the organisation he leads.

Based on what I heard in the interview I can only implore Minister Faafoi and other cabinet ministers to declare total distrust of this CEO and ask for his head tout suite.

I have no complaint that RNZ should not be looking at attracting younger listeners to a new brand, but not at the expense of CFM, and based on his comments, he has no regard for CFM listerners up until now when their voice has been clearly heard, as such in my view, he is out of touch with his customer base and unfit to continue.

Cheers Cyril

I'm glad it looks like some sort of solution may be worked out, now they just need to keep all the presenters. I know radio people don't get paid much, probably less on a state-owned station, so their salaries probably don't exactly run into the trillions.

I now have the opinion that the RNZ CEO played the Government. I think he knew that Concert listeners would cause an uproar, more so than National ones I think. I am sure he got what he wanted another frequency and no doubt the extra dosh to make it all happen.

I wrote this a couple of pages back

Rather than doing whats right let's just cripple one of our current programmes but still deliver it so that we can say we're meeting the charter. With the money we save we'll start a new programme for which there is no proven market.  However we can proudly announce we have improved our compliance of the charter requirements which is no doubt part of someones KPI's and a nice bonus.

I was discussing this fiasco with my wife today and as a result I came up with an alternative option. I think Bananabob might be on the money.

So what a cafafle, if the board and CEO deliberately put this stunt up to force Minister FaaFoi into making a move then that is simply poor tactics on the CEO and Board behalf, the Minister should be seriously questioning their credibility.

If they did it not knowing the ramafications, then clearly they dont know their listener base, so how can they understand how RNZ should look moving forward.

..........................Unbelivable, and very poor form on RNZ management.

Get rid of the patronising concert DJs with their affected voices, and get rid of the pretentious stuff like broadcasting applause! Am I the only person who hates having their musical experience interrupted by these 'presenter' people?

Hi, the applause, I assume you talk of the expression from the audience of a live broadcast, something which the radio listener is also participating in, clearly you miss the engagement of a live or recorded live broadcast.

Edit: purhaps just not listen if live recordings are not your thing

How are they patronising exactly? I'm a radio DJ too, so I have some experience...but what makes them sound "patronising"?

And to answer your question, yes. You probably are. I think something like Spotify is what you're looking for.

I have never found any classical DJ to be patronising. Usually they are informative.

For those who question the ability of RNZ employees to critique their own organisation's actions should have a listen to Kathryn Ryan's interview yesterday with the RNZ board chair; I could see no sign of her going easy on him...

Clearly a significant stuff-up that no-one, whether it be RNZ, MOCAH (in relation to the 2019 discussions on allocation of the radio frequencies) or the Minister of Broadcasting are keen on taking ownership of.
