c/o https://advanced-television.com/2020/03/05/britbox-to-launch-in-australia/

BBC Studios, the principal commercial arm of the BBC, and ITV, the UK’s biggest commercial broadcaster, are to launch the BritBox SVoD service in Australia.

The ad-free streaming service will bring Australians what the pair describe as an unrivalled collection of great British TV shows, and will build on the successful launch and operation of the service in both North America (USA and Canada) and most recently in the UK.

No information on price or launch date yet. Will be interesting to see if the launch includes NZ.

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC a Technology Evangelist and Product Manager. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

Oh gosh I hope they do include NZ. Acorn is available here and it is under au.acorn.tv, but it doesn't stream BBC & ITV content, just Acorn. I have a subscription for Acorn but would sign up to this in a heartbeat if available here too.

For those interested, I took it upon myself to contact Britbox with a link to the article above. Yes I did lol. They had the good grace to reply promptly but with an answer that didn't really say anything:

"Hi [catspyjamas]

We always love to hear from our Kiwi fans! We’ll be passing along your interest & enthusiasm back to our team. There’s no specific details we can share with you today, though we hope to have news for you in the future.

Regards

[name of CR]"

I actually got the exact same message in two separate emails signed by two different names, so clearly a canned response. If I had to guess I'd say that probably means no.

I noticed this a couple of days ago - Spitting Image to return on BritBox:

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I got the same reply to my inquiry but I read it with a positive mind and thought the implied answer was a yes.
