I know that TVNZ OD was working in February.   But in the last couple of week I have not been able to access it with either firefox or chrome (OS = Debian 10)

Playback fails with message; "Incorrect timezone/not in NZ?".

I am in NZ, and my timezone is correct?

Any tips on what the problems is and how to fix it?

Thanks

Are you using any Geo unblock tools or VPNs?

Also who is your ISP?

I use Linux all the time and have no issues other than the incredibly short session time out TVNZ have.

Thanks.

Are you using any Geo unblock tools or VPNs? - No. AFAIK I'm using ISP dns with quad9 as fallback

Also who is your ISP? - Vodafone Cable in Christchurch

I use Linux all the time and have no issues other than the incredibly short session time out TVNZ have. - good to know it can work!

Try a private browsing window in case you've got some bad cookies

I highly doubt it is anything at all to do with linux
I run opensuse and have no issues with any browser accessing tvnz on demand
also have an htpc running OSMC (debian based) that connects to tvnz without issue

Tried that, still no joy. :(

Notably, viewing the live channel streams works fine. It is only the on demand that is broken.

Are you on wired or wireless internet?

If you're on wired configure a new network profile with ONLY your ISPs dns servers and reboot, or at the very least restart your browser.

I've had the same issue and it is usually because of a service like Getflix etc, so there is a chance it is your dns provider.

Wired or wireless, no difference.  3 different laptops running different linux distros, all have same problem.

Before anyone suggests trying windows or macos,  there are none of those here.

The laptops DNS is set to the router, which afaik has whatever vodafone has set it to be...

(Composed this before seeing farcus latest suggestion:)

Final desperate attempt, I disabled wifi on the laptop, and tethered to a mobile phone also with wifi switched off.

Lo and behold the video will play.

Once it has started playing, reenable wifi,  disconnect tethered phone, and it keeps on going... (for a few minutes at least).

Interesting problem.

I have had no problem using TVNZ On Demand on Linux recently.

I wonder if it could be a DRM or add-on thing.

Have you had a look for errors in the browser console and/or network requests?

Ok try setting your DNS to quad9 only and see what happens.
