While browsing Cheap Charts to see what the latest deals were; I was excited to see that there is a section for films in 3D. There are a goodly amount of films in the format, so I decided to do some research on what I would need to watch these films in 3D. The short answer is... an Apple Vision Pro.
The Apple Vision Pro is a mixed-reality headset developed by Apple. It was announced on June 5th 2023, at Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference, and was released in Global Territories throughout 2024. It is available to buy in New Zealand, but only through parallel importers as far as I can gather. It can also be imported from Australia and other countries. The price, a measly US$3499 π NZ Parallel Importers are closer to NZ$8000.
Whilst most owners say that its an amazing experience, some others are complaining of headaches. Understandably, the Vision Pro hasn't sold as well as Apple were hoping for, but rumours from web leaks is that Apple are working on the Apple Vision Pro 2. The biggest problem with the first generation headset is the price, but its rumoured that the second generation could release at a US$2000 price point. Its still a lot of cash, but a little more affordable for the user who "just has to have one" We can expect the new headset to be available in 2026.
