Marvel's THUNDERBOLTS*; which has just been released at cinemas worldwide, is receiving early love from critics and audience alike.

After some of the less than enjoyable Marvel films of late, its good to hear that Marvel have returned to form with their latest offering.

Why the * in the title? Well, all is revealed later in the movie apparently. I'm looking forward to an Apple Store release in a couple of months or so.

The Apple Store often release older movies that haven't been available in the store before. Unfortunately, they release them without listing them as new releases, so its quite easy for some titles to be missed by users. This is the case for my "new release" post today. It would be impossible for me to list every new release, as there are many each week, mostly unheard of, so I try to select the films that may be of interest.

THE BOY AND THE HERON (2023, Studio Ghibli Anime, 124 mins. PG) 1080p/Dolby Digital 5.1 [Buy - $22.99: Rent - $3.99]

After losing his mother during the war, young Mahito moves to his family's estate in the countryside. There, a series of mysterious events lead him to a secluded and ancient tower, home to a mischievous gray heron. When Mahito's new stepmother disappears, he follows the gray heron into the tower, and enters a fantastic world shared by the living and the dead. As he embarks on an epic journey with the heron as his guide, Mahito must uncover the secrets of this world, and the truth about himself.

There are two options available in the Apple Store. The English version with English 5.1 audio, and the original Japanese version with Japanese stereo audio and forced (always on) English subtitles.

I have finally settled on Rotten Tomatoes as my go to website for film information and review scores. It seems to be the most popular website with users.

From the above post I am going to list two RT scores on new release titles; the first one is the critics score. The second is the audience score. On already released titles I will just include the audience score.

Disney's live action re-make of SNOW WHITE, starring Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) in the title role; is expected to be available from the Apple Store on May 13th.

As usual with Disney titles, the release will include Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

A South Island couple who made their business fortune through the sale of a high-profile Australian food business are now pursuing their silver-screen dreams, spending millions to privately fund a feature film shot in Queenstown.

Lance Giles and Jordana Stott have invested more than $10m of their own money into the feature film Forgive Us All, an apocalyptic neo-Western film that, between them, they have written, produced, and directed.

The film has a prominent Australasian cast including Lily Sullivan, Callan Mulvey, Richard Roxburgh, Dean O’Gorman, Lawrence Makoare and Giles himself.

Forgive Us All was shot in and around Queenstown, including in the Rees Valley near Glenorchy, in New Zealand’s autumn. It has been in post-production and is expected to be released in mid-2025.

The project is all the more extraordinary in that there are no banks, studios or other investors helping finance the film – it’s coming directly from Giles and Stott.

Giles told the Herald he and his wife had a passion for filmmaking and had always dreamed and planned to pursue their own projects.

A MINECRAFT MOVIE (2025) gets its digital release in the US on May 13th. The date isn't yet confirmed for the NZ Apple Store, but it should be soon after, if not on that date.

The film didn't make the $1 Billion box-office dollars, but is still raking in the money with a total of over $876 Million worldwide. It has become one of the most successful video game adaptations of all time.

We will all be able to yell "Chicken Jockey" from the comfort of our own home soon enough 😁
