I watched my 1080p Blu-ray disc just this week and I was blown away by the video and audio. It looked fantastic on Blu-ray. Disney would be the studio to release a 4K Ultra HD if it were to happen, but, unfortunately they have cast aside Australia and NZ, so we would have to import it. But, I agree, it would look amazing on 4K.

The 1988 cult western; Young Guns, has new artwork to match Lionsgate's upcoming US 4K Ultra HD SteelBook release. It has also had iTunes Extras added with a new retrospective documentary.

The 4K Ultra HD release has a Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos A/V upgrade from the old 1080p/Stereo release. The film is $4.99 on iTunes at the moment, I'm going to buy it in anticipation of a free upgrade 😁

jonathan18: Great to see we can FINALLY rent Barbie - this gap between theatrical release and availability to rent seems to have been as long a time as the good ol’ days of movies>DVD rentals… Also $7.99 for 4K on Google Play.

Edit: Barbie released in NZ cinemas on 20 Jul, so basically four months. Am I right in thinking that’s longer than the norm in 2023, or am I dreaming?

CheapCharts is a fantastic app. Highly addictive too.

Interestingly, today I received a CheapCharts email alert that said the 1990 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves' (Kevin Costner) had dropped to $4.99. Tapping on the price icon to buy it, it took me to the TV app and it said the Buy price was $14.99. I tried this on both my iPhones and my Mac, and final Buy price was always $14.99.

This is the first time this has happened for me.

Unsure if this is a mistake by CheapCharts or a possible temporary slip-up by iTunes Store.

NEW APPLE TV 4K RUMOURED FOR FIRST HALF OF 2024.

MacRumors is reporting that a new Apple TV 4K is rumoured for next year. The third-generation Apple TV 4K model was released only a year ago with added memory options (64gb & 128gb) a faster A15 Bionic chip and the ability to stream HDR10+ movies.

Its rumoured that the new fourth-generation box will have the A16 or A17 Bionic chip on board. Also in an attempt to compete with competitors, there will be a price reduction.

This is good news. Apple are supporting and upgrading their excellent streaming box. But, the only meaningful upgrade for me would be the ability to bitstream lossless audio so that we can enjoy our surround sound movies the way that they were intended to be heard, only then would I end my association with physical media, and upgrade my second-generation box. We can only hope!
