That is what kept me on spotify for so long. Otherwise I may as well just play my own music collection from the days of what.cd and new stuff I have added to it recently from other sources. At least my NAS doesnt try to get me to listen to podcasts when browsing my music.

Clearly Spotify want to try to get some return for what must be a sizeable investment in podcasts - whether it be clowns like JR, the purchase of Gimlet et al, or other parts of the podcast puzzle, as detailed in this Dec report:

Spotify is continuing its investments in podcasts with today’s news that it has acquiredanother podcast technology company, Whooshkaa, an Australia-based all-in-one platform for hosting, managing, distributing, promoting, monetizing and measuring podcasts. The deal follows Spotify’s earlier acquisitions in the podcast technology market, including last year’s deal for hosting and ad company Megaphone, and, more recently, podcast discovery platform Podz.

It seems the end result is they’ve actually f—d off a lot of their customers - I haven’t heard many that actually like Spotify’s podcast integration. Like many others here, I much prefer to manage my podcasts in a specific app (for me it’s Podcast Addict), and don’t want to have to use Spotify for any of them - but in moving to put some of Gimlet’s best shows (Science Vs, Heavyweight) only on Spotify I may well have to come to terms with it if I want to continue listening to them. But for someone used to using a conventional podcast app, I really just don’t get how to manage podcasts in Spotify, as it’s a really different experience…

Senecio:

Even before the Rogan stuff, it was this instance that Spotify wanted to take over my podcasts that first got me thinking about switching. I just want to listen to music, I use other another app for my podcasts and I like to keep them separate.

Apple CarPlay is the worst. I have to scroll past all of the podcast suggestions to get to any music.

Even before the Rogan stuff the UI update they made last year absolutely made me switch to Deezer. I was not happy and they broke something that wasn't broken!

I just don't listen to Rogan's podcast any more.

Still happy with the music selection available on Spotify and I get a discount via my mobile plan.

For those wanting CD quality and Hi-Res lossless streaming, Qobuz is another option. I believe it does not contain podcasts.

Here is a skit about Spotify and Joe Rogan from last year that I found funny.

It took a few days (perhaps as Tidal learns what I listen to) but I now see it generating stuff for me which is great!

Never really listened or took much notice of Joe Rogan before because my Spotify account has been used only for music, but because of the fuss, found his interviews on YouTube.

I can see why he is so well liked. I watched him interview Bernie Sanders, Elon Musk, Bill Maher, there’s a long list of interesting people from all walks of life he has had on his shows. His style is sincere and warm which I suspect is why he has 11 million followers. It’s pure entertainment.

Spotify have announced they would issue a content advisory for all Covid related issues from now on. Rogan has also issued a statement and apology. I note that Megan and Harry will continue with their Spotify contract regardless.

Each to his own I guess, but I really enjoy my Spotify playlists and have no inclination to start over with another streaming option. Tried both Deezer and Apple.

Ah, the “Streisand Effect” at work.

Attempts by the perpetually outraged to get someone cancelled, just makes me more curious. I haven’t watched or listened to any of the JRE. I prefer to choose what I consume rather than have the ‘censors’ do it.

Deezer does the same thing too and it's great! I actually get to listen to new stuff and it discovers stuff much like a very old service that isn't here anymore, PANDORA.

Senecio: Plenty of discussion in the news at the moment with artists like Neil Young and Joni Mitchell removing their music from Spotify in response to their continued support for Joe Rogan and his spreading of mis-information via his podcast platform.

Have you listened to Rogan talking about the vaccine? He encourages people with covid risk factors to get vaccinated.   He also interviews plenty of people that strongly support vaccination.

Agreed

Before simply jumping ship to support a narrative - I suggest reading this short article, and watch the embedded video.

Rogan makes mistakes - as do we all, but his guests are often leaders in their respective fields denied access to Big Tech platforms.

It cant hurt to listen and make up your own mind - right? If you don't agree then you have at least looked at both sides of the arguement.

I used Soundizz to move my library and playlists from Spotify to Apple Music last year after getting fed up with Spotify "forgetting" my music was downloaded. My job and holidays result in my driving long stretches of road without 4G connection, so having Spotify tell me XY but not Z is downloaded for offline use was driving me insane. Spotify support made me run through all the resetting app steps, and started telling me I'd have to fully reset my phones (an Android and iPhone, two separate help tickets over a two year period). Took the three month trial and stayed; only feature I miss is Spotify's superior recommendation systems as I find it harder to discover new music on Apple. Apply focuses on playlists and "radio stations", whereas Spotify focused on albums and artists; I find the latter approach worked better, while Apple does recommend new artists and albulms there are less of them recommended per day / browse / refresh than Spotify.

Yes, I used it to copy playlists to Qobuz - great service.

Shame Amazon Unlimited doesn't allow importing playlists otherwise it would work just fine on my Amazon Echo devices. And Qobuz doesn't have an Amazon Echo skill.
