everettpsycho: We are currently in Ukraine for YouTube and that seems to work ok, cost us $6.30 a month for the family and had no card issues like we were experiencing in Turkey.

I just changed my Youtube and Google billing profiles to Ukraine, and connected to Nord VPN on their Ukrainian server, but can't get past the first hurdle:

India is around $3.70 a month for a family plan

You do need to move the address for your account as well. I think I am registered to be at a McDonalds in New Delhi

The last time I had to do this I found India, Argentina and Turkey troublesome so I ended up in the Philippines. At the time it was one of the next cheapest at ~$7/mth for a family plan. I think I used the address of a large shopping centre.

I've heard people discuss the possibility of it in forums but I don't know of anyone yet who has had their account black listed or blocked as a result of doing this. Doesn't mean that it doesn't or can't happen, I've just never seen it it myself.

With some assistance from @dougierydal I have finally managed to resubscribe to YT Premium. There was a lot of trial and error involved - Turkey, Philippines, Ukraine and Vietnam were all a no-go for me. This last try was via Pakistan and I had to take extra steps not taken by others (eg updating my Google billing address) before it actually worked.

Here's what I did:

  1. Download Urban VPN extension for Microsoft Edge (free) and connect to Pakistan.
  2. Log into YouTube, then click on my username avatar/symbol in top right corner and select "Google Account" from the menu.
  3. On the Google Account page, select "Payment & Subscriptions"
  4. On the next page, click on "Manage Payment Methods"
  5. On the Payments Centre page, click on "Settings" - this will bring up your existing Google Payment profile. I don't use Google for anything else (ie I don't have an Android phone anymore, so playing with these settings will not affect any payment settings for NZ. Your experience may vary so think about this before continuing - it will muck up things like auto fill on websites for your address etc which could annoy you. If in doubt, setup a new Google account first and then use that to subscribe to YouTube. I didn't want to do that as I have all my Chrome browsing linked across multiple devices via my Google account so having to switch accounts just to watch YouTube was going to be too annoying for me. Not to mention that I already have an established YouTube channel with an amazing 47 subscribers LOL.
  6. Down the page, it should show Country/Region: New Zealand. I clicked the pencil to edit.
  7. I then entered the address for the NZ Embassy in Pakistan (I ironically Googled the address!). Then hit save.
  8. I then ensure the Pakistan address is set as the default billing address by checking the "Addresses" tab.
  9. Go back to YouTube, click on the username avatar/symbol again, and select "Purchases & Memberships"
  10. At this point here you should see Premium offers available in Pakistan - eg Individual membership for PKR 479/month (roughly NZ$2.77)
  11. Select the offer you want, and you should get the BUY button.
  12. Hit the buy button then enter your credit card details (I used my WISE card and created a Pakistani Rupee wallet and loaded it with 5000 Rupees [NZ$30] just in case. I am not sure if you actually need to do that extra step or not). At this point the Pakistani address you previously entered above should have auto populated into the payment screen. If not, you may need to manually enter it again.
  13. Hit the buy button and your payment should be processed.
  14. Done.

Note Pakistan does not seem to offer yearly memberships so you will need to ensure whatever credit card you used has the funds available for monthly debits. In my case I loaded my Wise account with enough for a year and will just periodically top it up.

Note 2: As per the @michaelmurfy post below, you may want to remove the Urban VPN extension after you have finished to stop them harvesting your data....

From what I can tell, YouTube seem to be moving from country to country, gradually making each country harder in turn to connect to, so who knows how long Pakistan will work for... Good luck to you all.

[EDIT: corrected the name of the browser I used, and added note about VPN data harvesting]

@Wheelbarrow01 You're awesome! Mine is coming up for renewal soon also so will give this a shot. Just a note on the Urban VPN software:

If you're using Windows 10/11 Pro you can use Windows Sandbox to just launch a temporary session. I would strongly recommend if not you remove this extension as soon as you're done as it is there to harvest data to provide you with a "free VPN". Just in general be careful with Free VPN's.

Edit: Worked perfectly. Thanks! Just a reminder to folks too this works well for cheap Google One storage.

Actually just to correct my previous post (which I'll edit shortly), I downloaded the Urban VPN extension onto Microsoft Edge - which I NEVER use for anything. So what you have said above about data harvesting will be inconsequential to me (assuming they can only harvest from the browser it's on, not all the browsers you have?)

But still great information to know for sure!!

Yeah I used Edge in Sandbox for it. Worked perfectly fine. Just destroyed the sandbox when I was done then boom:

Last time I tried this using a vpn and India, I created four 'Indian' Gmail accounts, linked them via Google family.

After a few days Google locked my accounts which prevented me accessing the billing page to stop the monthly credit card payment . I had to contact support, explain why I needed access to stop my credit card payments. Was a pain in the arse.

How often do you need to log into Google via the vpn to keep it active?

My Turkish subscription rolled over OK a few days ago. I'd alps had to update my credit card details so was a little surprised it stuck after reading these latest few comments.

Oh man, I wish my Turkish renewal had been so easy. As stated above I had to up sticks and move to Pakistan. Very inconvenient lol.

What card do you have - Mastercard? Mine was an ANZ Visa, but now using Wise for Pakistan.

My sub is only monthly, I don't know if that made a difference, and actually I can't even remember annually even being an option last time. Strangely the details on my visa now say youtube premium London, which it didn't used to.

Yeah mine was yearly and what's worse is I used a temporary card and couldn't update it.

Reading this is just worrying that some of you might get caught by google locking your accounts, or not allowing country changes, etc and then have your life locked away...
