I used to pay for ad-free...but we all know that's not an option anymore. We also know that the regular price is just too much for what you get. My workaround? I now run TubeSync on docker (on Unraid specifically) - it took a bit to set up and configure as adding my channels was a bit of a chore, and that also worked best if I converted each one to a channel ID (done here).

Overnight it checks all the channels for new content, and if it finds some it is downloaded automatically and dropped into a folder that Plex watches....and after that it is no different to watching anything else on Plex.

Lastly, anything older than three weeks is purged automatically....set and forget unless I want to add/remove a channel.

It's been running for a few weeks now and it is pretty sweet - I would have preferred a cheap ad-free service, but this also works fine for me as 95% of everything is now uninterrupted.  :-)

EDIT: Typos...I'm a knuckle dragger.

Interesting... I run Plex on a Synology NAS, but not sure if I have the skills nor patience to set this up. @Bewildered: on a scale of 1-10, how complex/time-consuming would you say this is?

How long have you been living there, if you don't mind me asking?

If you are familiar with docker (many are, but if not probably worth an afternoon of futzing) then it is actually pretty easy.

Install the image, set the file path to where you want the output to go, add your channels. For me the channels was the PITA - I added about 40.

Each one needs to be created as a new 'record' and over 80% of them failed on my first attempt. Google google google....it turns out that TubeSync works best if you convert all your feeds into channels IDs. So I had to set them all up again - and now it is all going well.  You get to avoid that loop of pain by using the IDs from the start.

If I was doing it again it would take me 20 minutes to set it all up (including updating Plex). After that once you've got a rhythm going it takes about 60 seconds per channel depending on how pedantic you are....so well worth it given that per channel that's equivalent to only 1-2 ad breaks - a one-time effort means no more time wasted on ads after that....

I also found it struggled to run properly when I was configuring it as it kept trying to download and I kept piling in more requests and sometime deleting a channel and reloading it (i.e. converting from @handle to /channel_id). That was easily solved by telling TubeSync to reset its history and start fresh once I was finished. Since then it has all been easy-as and it is all set-and-forget.

In Plex it is pretty OK too:

I don't bother with beautifying posters etc or even fixing names, I just take it as it comes...which is fine...because it is free. And.....ad free!

I'm also still surviving in the Philippines but I don;t expect it to last much longer. For those who are looking into alternative solutions I have created a post in the private unblocking services forum with a few options that I've found in my research for when that email arrives.

Note: I checked with Mauricio and he confirmed it was OK to discuss possible alternatives in the private forum

@Bewildered can you share one of your configs for a channel please?
I've got TubeSync setup and have added 3 channels and it is indexing them OK but nothing is downloading.
I can see in the Media section that videos are being skipped by system.

If I click into one of those skipped videos it shows all the details about the video but has a red error across the top saying:

I can't see why that is happening. 🤪

Thanks for that.
I see you have set No cap for the download cap, is that downloading every video from the channel?!

I installed Freetube a while ago in response to watching the LTT video about an ad-free youtube (that got taken down).

Super easy setup, involving exporting your config from Google, and then importing it into Freetube. Once the config was downloaded, it was a total of 2 minutes work to have functionally a near-identical Youtube replacement on the desktop, with all my subscriptions there as before.

On the phone, Newpipe works great as well.
