That would be a decent compromise, but I can't see it offered (in NZ)
I can see it on the YouTube app. What are you viewing it through?
Thanks, was looking at youtube.com in a browser...
Senecio:
I tried the YouTube music app and I just couldn't adapt. I like the Spotify daily mixes too much to give them up. The Spotify algorithm just seems to work so well to give me 6 daily mixes that cover a broad spectrum of my music listening preference.
I was the same when i went to youtube music from spotify etc, however now i find youtube music a lot better than spotify for song list and mixing. Just took a few weeks for it to learn. I tried to go back to spotify a few weeks ago to give it another go (my new watch has offline spotify) however i found it awful (bloated app, slow, longer load times for music i.e. 10 - 15 seconds before playing the song).
Also finding spotify interface awful now.
jjnz1: A few months ago (Oct'22) I signed up 4 Indian google accounts, all in one family using a VPN and my NZ credit card, to sign up to YT family. I added these account to my kids and wife's devices to access YT premium.
A few days after I signed up all my accounts got locked by Google, and I had to contact them to unlock the primary to remove my credit card details as it was still charging me monthly even though I couldn't use it!
I too decided to do this after I received an email saying my subs would increase from $19.99 to $29.99.
I might have to revisit this as I like no ads.
Has anyone had any success creating one foreign account and linking their everyday gmail accounts as family members?
There's a bit of chat about this on the Aussie Whirlpool forum - https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/98prjqr9?p=42
Can confirm Turkey still works, just signed up
Sorry, I am sure this has been posted but it is such a long thread...
What is a suitable trial/throw-away VPN to use for this, and did we decide in the end that Wise was a suitable payment instrument?

I had Nord so used that - they do offer 7 day trials so you should be able to use that as a new user.
Payment method I did directly with my card

Wise is fine if you want to use Wise. I have a family plan via Turkey and use my standard Debit Visa card from BNZ. VPN, can't remember which one connects where.

What VPN did you use and did you have a family group before signing up, or did you invite family members afterwards? Thanks

In my case I used the free VPN that comes with my lifetime sub to Getflix; I already had a family group set up and it applied Premium features to all members, including the kids managed under Family Link (despite the website stating it's not available on kids' accounts).

I used Nord VPN as I have an account with them and it seems you can add family member during set up/applying, but I had a group set up already
I've been doing this for over a year but the credit card has expired.
I've updated the card details, but Google won't accept the payment as it says it needs a payment method from the billing country (Or something along those lines).
I signed up for a Wise card and tried that and get the same error message.
Doing all of this while connected to a VPN in the appropriate country and using a private browser window.
Payment profile location is set to the appropriate country too.
Anything else I need to do to make Google accept the Wise card?
Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.
No matter what I tried I couldn't get Google to accept a Wise card.
Which country is your Google account currently set to? I was originally set to Argentina but their regulations changes and they would no longer accept my NZ Visa card. I think a Mastercard would have worked but I don't currently have one. I also wasn't able to get Turkey working using the VPN I have, I've heard they can be a bit temperamental.
In the end I had to move my Google account to the Philippines and that worked using my NZ Visa card. A little more expensive that Argentina or Turkey but not that much.
