I've been hit by Premium Lite being discontinued too. It's extremely annoying, I have absolutely no need for any of the other features offered in the full premium plan, I just wanted no ads.

Same. Honestly, can't Google leave something in place for more than 5 minutes - or even 5 months, as it was about then I randomly got offered it and today's email refers to me as one of their "first Premium Lite Subscribers"...

So my annual Turkish YouTube Premium subscription came up for renewal yesterday but I immediately ran into problems.

The first problem is that YouTube's smarts know which IP addresses Nord VPN uses, so I got a "we can't identify/confirm your location" message. I used a more obscure free VPN to solve that issue and proceeded to the renewal page.

However the second problem came when I entered my credit card number. Turkish YouTube subscriptions must now be paid with a card issued in Turkey. This was not the case last year. I had a go with my ANZ Visa first, and then my Wise Visa - but both failed. I don't have a Mastercard to try.

Has anyone else successfully renewed YT Premium via VPN in an alternate country in the past few months? If so, what country and VPN did you use?

I'm not averse to paying for content, but $23.99/month is a bit rich. On the flipside, having to sit through incessant adverts for the past 24 hours is driving me nuts!! And dozens of ads in your search results is a new 'feature' I also dont like...

I use Revolut for my Indian family sub. It goes through each month.

Say it isn’t so!! I’ve got so used to the ad-free experience I don’t know if I could go back… Also, a wider family revolt could be on the cards if I don’t find an alternative way that works. If not, I guess we could go back to the option of shifting all the family to YT Music and cancel the Spotify Family account, which would be even cheaper than paying for two services as we do currently but comes with a lot of work…

Offers a similar service to Wise: https://www.revolut.com/

@Handle9: Any hints as to how to do this, what type of account is required etc? (Unsure if it’s worth setting up an account with any of these kinds of companies primarily for this.) Ta.

Also looks like lots of people here have used a Wise card - is that an easier/less costly option than Revolut? Has anyone had any problems with using Wise when renewing? I’d just like to be prepared if/when our payment breaks…

Signed up through a VPN connected to a Vietnam server for $5.50/m. Be sure to use a back up account in case you get caught & the account is closed.

Which VPN?
And what credit card?

I’m on the standard (free) plan and made a virtual card I use for YouTube. That’s about it.

We are currently in Ukraine for YouTube and that seems to work ok, cost us $6.30 a month for the family and had no card issues like we were experiencing in Turkey.
