JPNZ:
I'd imagine this sort of news is great for the likes of Apple+ and Disney+ that don't impose sharing restrictions like NF are about too
If you don't think those platforms are going to follow suit, then I have a bridge to sell you. Plus, Apple+ catalog is a fraction of the size of Netflix.

For some people that's a valid argument, but it depends on what you're into.
On rare occasions when I have spare time I go for a run, or walk to the coast for a swim, either of which costs me close enough to $0. There is no way I would pay $25 a month for Netflix.
Really depends on what you're into, but for me - CrunchyRoll is $10, Disney is $15, HIDIVE is $10, and Warhammer+ is also $10 (although it's pretty bad, and the free model per year is the only reason it's worth keeping myself subbed)
Disney and HIDIVE have split profiles so are easy enough to share with my friend. My monthly subscription budget was getting pretty nuts so it's nice to drop a good chunk of it off.

TVNZ on demand, free youtube, and plex keep me entertained.
I’m following this thread with interest - mainly because we travel quite a lot and often for extended periods. We generally take an ATV with us and connect it to the TV where we are staying and watch NF on that. We have the top-tier of NF - there are two of us and we share our log-in with our adult son who lives elsewhere.
However (and I don’t think anyone has mentioned this aspect earlier in this thread) we get our NF bundled with our Spark broadband. Spark bundle the basic package and we pay them extra for the tier we want - all collected in our monthly Spark bill.
This structure adds a whole layer of complexity to the delivery of and charging for NF. Spark are likely to be tearing their hair out at these changes and it must raise a query over whether they will continue to offer NF. Maybe they’ll say it’s all too hard and bin it. Watch this space.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

If you get low value, don't. I respect your posts, but I never buy anything I dont get value from, its not worth a comment actually

I am too, being billed by Spark for Fibre Netflix, plus the extra $6-50 for Premium. I have some (3 i think) family freeloaders hiving off me. I will downgrade to Standard, and tell them Its not worth me paying 3 x $8 for them, even though the $ is not an issue, more a principle thing. Downgrade at Netflix website that will reflect on the Spark bill. What I will enjoy is that my profile wont be filled with girly teen stuff, hence made my new Profle MAIN to escape that and start over.
Good ride, but its over Not unlike the Sky threads in some ways.

I’m probably way wrong on this but if I’m not, there must be a lot of NF bundling going on around the world and if the bundlers drop it due to the additional charging complexity, there would be many bundlees who would not go on to subscribe directly. This could result in a significant drop in subscriber numbers for NF.

clinty:
Netflix said customers who had second homes such as baches or who travelled frequently would be able to continuing watching at both if they opened the Netflix app on their mobile while connected to the Wi-Fi network at both their primary location and second location at least once a month.
So all NF account holders with baches must go on holiday every month to keep their locations active.
I can live with that.

Eva888: Will this work with VPN.
I don't see why not. Assuming that your VPN server has a static IP address, Netflix would always see you "coming" from that address.
Not sure. People used to use a VPN to send a US IP address so they could watch US content but NF wrote code to detect if you're using a VPN and tells you to turn it off before attempting to access their service. And the code is pretty aggressive.
I suppose the question is whether it somehow detects a VPN, or whether it's just blacklisting known "public" VPN endpoints. My earlier post was written from the perspective of a private VPN connecting back to your house.

not sure what you mean by added complexity. netflix will just pass the extra, assuming you add sub-accounts, on to spark, which will pad your bill with that amount. i don't see it as any different from getting that added $6.50 or so for the premium plan.
obviously, if you don't add sub-accounts nothing changes. outlawing access from outside your 'household' is on the distribution side, not billing.
or did you mean something else?

i suspect it's the latter.

been thinking of this, too... it'd sure be interesting to know.

Now that you put it that way, that makes sense. Looks like I didn’t think it right through. Hope you’re right.
