No wastage in this house anymore. Just downgraded to the SD plan before I get the price hike email, and thought might as well drop fibre to 50 Mbps while I'm at it. We've had 300 Mbps fibre for about a year and a half too, and the cable to the O.N.T only does 100 Mbps. Never had the need to replace it.

300Mbit is the base access level, and I think it's about to get nudged to 500Mbit.  Many people won't come close to saturating it.
ISP subscription-on-top may have some variability.

I would encourage everyone to drop it for a month and see how they like it.

I dropped it about 5 months ago - Value for money isn't there anymore for me.

There are no ad supported plans in NZ (unless I am missing something)

Nope. And they pulled the ones from the US market too July last year. Sound familiar (2024) and this was before the later price rise..

Netflix signalled it will try to justify the higher subscription prices — and perhaps reel in more advertisers to a low-cost plan that includes commercials — with a 10-year, US$5 billion ($8.1b) deal announced today that will bring the popular wrestling programme, WWE’s Raw, to its service.

Well that strategy clearly worked. So much so it's increasing again.

uh... bit of a waste paying for 300M service and getting only 100M due to that cable. i guess you were never held back by 100M before they bumped up the speed to 300M.

Netflix standard will likely only be an issue for those who have and enjoy their UHD + Dolby Atmos surround systems. these days, more and more people use portable devices for consumption. i think they'll be perfectly fine off the premium subs. one use case could be flatties as they potentially use 4 simultaneous streams, and split the bill amongst themselves.

Got the price increase email today with it coming in from our next billing date (the month renews today so one more month at the old price). Will have to decide what to do but leaning towards cancelling. Not using it enough lately to justify paying 24% more.

Pulled the trigger on cancelling before the price increase goes through tomorrow. Not using it enough to justify the 24% increase and we're about to go away on holiday where we wouldn't be using it anyway. Can re-look at when we come back home.

Suspended my service; Netflix seems to only let you do it for a month.

Will be interested to see what happens at the end of the Month. Unsure how long we'll go before turning it back on! Busy watching my now reactivated Disney+ right now. Seems we'll be flip-flopping the services rather than keeping both active.

Netflix kept all the profiles for 9 months after I cancelled. Don’t even miss it now there’s so much else to watch and who has the time for all the streaming options now available.

Looks like Spark has announced an $8 increase to their fibre + netflix plans from 1 August. $3 more than the increase for their standard fibre plans ($5). The $3 difference to cover the Netflix price increase i assume
