At least you got a reply. I asked them if my 12 month old Blu-ray player would work and i never got a reply back..

I asked about recorders having access too. They said "Our DVD players cannot access Quikflix as it is only available for the newer TV's"

Looks like I'll have to buy a Sony one.

At risk of sounding like a rant, this whole "selected models" stuff is a bit of a joke. All the major manufacturers got on board with online connectivity, partly I guess to open the market for people wanting to watch online content without needing a computer or "advanced" skills. But all of these so called "smart TV" devices are so limited or crippled, it seems a 12 month old device can't cope. I understand that built in obsolescence is a way of providing an upgrade path, but this smacks of a cynical cash grab. If businesses are so keen to stamp out piracy, they could do worse than to look at their wider business models which put so many obstacles in the way of getting legitimate content easily, in the manner needed by the consumer. Together with other outdated approaches like geographically restricted content, businesses seem hell bent on pushing all but the most sheep-like consumers to piracy and other grey areas for getting content.

the PS3 stream is only SD for some reason.
If you have a Bravai TV/Blu-Ray and stream throug that instead it will be HD where available, and it works pretty well. (not sure about pana and samsung Tvs though)

Panny Plasma all the way. Best displays since Pioneer.

If you get the chance, or inclination, and you can figure out how to do it, have a look at any of the Vudu movie offerings (HDX quality).

I was simply blown away at the outstanding quality of the HDX stuff that you can stream through Vudu.
The video was full 1080p24, and the audio was certainly nothing to be scoffed at (Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 thru 7.1)
I can't claim that it is on the same level (at least specs wise) as Blu-ray can offer, but for a streaming offering, it is definitely the very best I have seen (I'm also a Blu-ray snob ;) ).

Granted, the service is a "US Only" service at this point, and in terms of bandwidth it certainly isn't on the lite side. But, it just goes to show that there are streaming services out there delivering a top-notch user experience. It is possible.

QuickFlix, my challenge to you is to deliver a service as good as, or better, than Vudu.

It does look interesting. I wouldn't count on NZ getting it anytime soon though.

I really don't wanna see physical media disappear.

I just wasted $150 on a wifi dongle for my Viera plasma, which I bought 3 months ago from DSE, thinking I could watch quickflix...I have viera tools with Facebook and shout cast but that's it...no Quickflix.

I was hoping I could buy an apple tv unit, and stream quickflix from my iPad to my tv, but it seems even doing that isn't possible.

Anyone have tips for increasing buffering?

There are right click options but none useful for this.

No doubt these are set properties of the DRM for the most part - but maybe there is a way to squeeze a little more in.

Hey,

Any word on when the xbox app will be available? I remember seeing something from MS themselves naming QuickFlix as a partner so I guess it is on.

The library is really filling out so if they get the app then I'll be in.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

Quickflix has an iPad app doesn't it? If so then just double tap the home button and slide sideways twice (left to right) and select Airplay to play to your Apple TV. You don't need to mirror the displays. Only works with iPad 2 and 3 though. However Quickflix could make their app natively work if they wanted to.

Cancelled my Quickflix today for a combination of reasons:

I'm on rural broadband shared 2-7MB something or other. Streaming was a bit variable. I get anywhere from a bit below 1MB to 3MB speedtest.
Discovery of new content is inadequate. No email notification, no rss, no 'date added' search feature. There is a 'recently added' list of 10 or so titles in the header. Content discovery at my video store twice a month is slightly easier.
When in full screen mode I get small black horizontal lines and some tearing on my screen. My gut feeling is my iMac Core2 Duo 2.0G X1600 128 is inadequate for the demands made by Silverlight/Quickflix and also that Microsoft does not really optimize Silverlight for the osx platform. My MacBook 1.83 also suffers from the same problem.
Email support was terrible. I don't mind the delay.
Quickflix could really use a sci-fi category. The tag is there but search is not enabled for it.

After a failed attempt to use email a while back I called up about #3 earlier today. On the first call I was on hold for a while while the rep talked to the technical guys then asked to reduce resolution (no difference) then suggested VGA cable problems and call back after the try on the second mac. First rep was very methodical.

When trying on the second mac I got an error about the maximum number of streams being open. I called back and got another rep. This one was not so methodical and told me several things in a somewhat accusatory tone including that I was running a registration cleaner. After a bit of back and forth she said she had fixed the problem.

Not so. I had to call back again. In the intervening period I finally twigged that a registration cleaner is probably some kind of hack to allow more than the allowed number of devices. Next rep was very helpful and friendly and after repeated assurances from me that I only had two machines and had only tried the second machine on instructions from the first rep, the rep was able to tell me that it appeared I had several movies open for streaming. I had tried a few titles during this process. After we clarified that I had only two machines and one was not even plugged in the rep went to speak to the technical guys and then reset/deleted those streams. The rep advised stopping video in future before starting another. There isn't actually a 'stop' button on the videos but there is a back button. In future I will use that in case it makes a difference.

After that it worked on the second mac, but it was clear the original problem was present there as well.

I called again and cancelled my membership but it lasts until the end of the month so I could try again.

Btw, phone navigation for an existing customer to speak to a representative is - 1,1,1.

My impression is quickflix need to empower their front line with the ability to reset devices and streams without additional approval or intervention from another team. This tends to introduce delays and additional questioning.

Overall I thought quickflix was ok especially now the titles are building up. I may return with some kind of media player or supported TV in the future.

Quicklfix now available on Samsung SmartHub NZ for Samsung Smart TVs.

I have one here but not a Quickflix account...

Will give it a try when I get home, but as I am yet to even get the smart hub working in a reliable manner and samsungs support is useless I am not hopeful.
