I used it to call an iPhone yesterday over Wifi and the audio was very clear, however the person on the other end complained of hearing their voice echo.

kiwitrc: Got my invite today.

Me too.

I downloaded and installed it, got sent the sms code and I was up and running. Txt'd and called another viber user and after a little trouble with me not being able to hear the other party, I was up and talking...

Then at some stage after the call ended and the phone was idle, the app deregistered itself and was asking me for my phone number and access code. All attempts to receive another access code have failed and I went to the next step which involves an automated call. That too never came. I gave up for a few hours and then tried again. This time the call came but it cut out as soon as I heard 'hello'.

I might have to try uninstalling and reinstalling, but this is completely unworkable.

On a Samsung Galaxy S btw.

Got my sms yesterday. First call was a bit choppy. Called someone with Viber on iPhone4. Viber said signal was excellent (XT) and audio was very clear but seemed to drop in and out. Might see how it goes over WiFi later.

I am getting annoyed with Viber now - not that I use it much, but...

Every few days the Android and the Windows Phone clients will show up the registration page, asking for the mobile number. I then have to go through the registration again.

Why is this happening? For example checked Viber yesterday on my Android handset, all nice... This morning it asked for the code again.

Arghhhhh.

I just LOVE this app! I've only been using it for three weeks but, so far (touch wood) it is performed flawlessly. I've made a number of calls and all but one were perfect voice quality. On the one that wasn't, I got some echo back and the person I called said I was fading in and out. This appeared to relate more to the unreliable hotel WiFi he was on rather than the app itself.

I've used it across both WiFi and on 3G. There is something special about sitting in a supermarket carpark talking to someone in Abu Dhabi airport while they are on the airport's free WiFi.

Messaging has been great but a little annoying when there is no way to know if another Viber user is even using their account. One of the messages I sent has remained undelivered for two weeks and I suspect will remain so. It would be nice to know if the recipient is using their account or if trying to message or call them is just wasting time.

I'm using the app on a Samsung Galaxy S3 and haven't had any need to re-enter the code or do anything except just use it.

True. But only way i found other person online is send a message! if it says "delivered" then he/she is online and if it only says "sent" he is not.

It's a SMS replacement and as such there is no "presence indication", just like SMS...

If you want presence then you should use Skype.

True, but with SMS you know that the message gets delivered if the phone is active. If someone sets up Viber not to run in the background the message doesn't get through at all unless they specifically activate Viber. If you send an SMS to an inactive phone number the message bounces back. If you send a message via Viber to someone who hasn't used their account for a year the message gets sent but not delivered.

Of course, even with SMS there's no guarantee that the message will be delivered but not read ;)

Actually SMS is best effort and it may not be delivered to the handset on time - for example network congestion will always cause SMS delays because it's lower priority compared to other resources. It's certainly not something I'd use for emergencies.

If you want to make sure someone received your message you call and talk to the intended recipient.

openmedia: So what is the benefit of Viber over Skype or Google Talk?

Viber not being owned by Microsoft is an important consideration (with respect to Skype) for many people.
