Hello everyone,

If this is more suited to the slingshot section, please move.
I have been with bigpipe since the free trial and they have been great especially with sorting out a few connection issues we have had. We are currently looking into getting VDSL and chose to go with a new provider who can cover the modem and installation costs. However with the new provider (slingshot) there has been a number of issues in getting them enough information to find our connection details.
Slingshot have been asking for an account number and I explained that bigpipe doesn't have account numbers which they didn't understand. We eventually got them some additional information about the connection, but it seems their provisioning has been unable to contact bigpipe.
I am not sure how the whole provisioning contact works but it seems as though their is some confusion between Bigpipe and Slingshot which has caused our connection to be delayed by two weeks. I shouldn't have to explain how Bigpipe works to another ISP.

I hope that my enlightening this issue that communication between Bigpipe and other ISPs can be improved, as it works both ways.

Cheers,
Genfres

Hi,

Sorry to hear you are leaving.

That's correct that we don't have account numbers - we use your email address to identify you, so you can give slingshot that if you like.

They may be having trouble finding us in the Chorus system.  Tell them to use TDV or Telecom Digital Ventures as that is the account we operate under.

(regarding communications between ISPs, unfortunately stuff like this has to go via Chorus, so Slingshot can't speak directly to us, and we can't speak to slingshot. Kind of a pain when stuff like this happens really)

Ild have to say, would have probably been easier, and possiblyeven slightly better hardware wise to source your own and stick to Bigpipe..

The.likes of coffeebarron could have done a filter for you too.

That has never been a big secret.

well kind of.
We are actually a bit more separate from Telecom the Skinny is.  Skinny still uses the Telecom mobile network.  We don't use any of Telecom's network.  (except in the way that other ISPs do - like capacity from southern cross etc)

Genfres, if the whole "Bigpipe is Telecom Digital Ventures and they don't use account numbers" thing doesn't work, another tact to try is... ask Bigpipe via support for your line's ASID (it's an identifier that Chorus use to identify a line) and give that to Slingshot.  Honestly, if Slingshot can't find a connection/line in Chorus' DB with the ASID then something is wrong with Slingshot ;).

Just a thought.

I would have thought going to Slingshot from Bigpipe is a bit of a downgrade? Maybe if you ask very nicely to the BigPipe guys they'll provide you with a master filter and from then just buy a VDSL router from somewhere for VDSL.
