I moved from Spark VDSL2 with landline to BigPipe VDSL2 (naked) on Thursday 10th March.  Switch over was smooth but my upload speed dropped from 30Mbps to 9Mbps.

 

The hardware setup is exactly the same before and after:

 

  • VDSL2 master filter installed
  • tg589vn2 used in bridge mode
  • TP-Link router used for PPPoE, routing and wifi

 

 

Here was the line stat when I was with Spark and when the bandplan changed to 998.

I checked the stats (but forgotten to capture it) a few days before the switch over and my line was up for more than 90 days with the 70 down 30 up figure.

 

 

 

I think my upload is lower now because of the port reset as a result of switching ISP.  But it is more than 36 hours since the switch over and the stats has not changed at all.

 

Is this normal?  Am I going to get my 70 down 30 up speed again?

you have gone from 17a to 8b profile which changes the max down/up speed from 70 down and 30 up, to 70 down and about 15 up as the max, this is set by the cabinet and can not be changed manually.

 

your line looks good so there is a good chance you will get it back at some stage, but no one will be able to tell you when.

I see.

 

Back on the 997 days, my line was on 8b for months (100+ days) before getting bumped up to 17a.  Don't know how long this is going take this time round.  =-(

 

Any reason why an ISP switch mandates a port reset?  I don't think an ISP switch needs a physical move to another port right?  Would it be great if I can keep my decent speed, even after an ISP switch, providing that no physical level change is needed?

its not moving you to a different physical port its more like electrically resetting it, which im guessing has happened, and may be the case when changing providers.
