Hi

on 200/200 here

curious what usenet speeds you are getting, i havent been able to get past 12MB/sec on several different usenet servers, supernews, astraweb, blocknews etc, both sab and nzget are the same

Anyone doing better than 12MB/sec? whats your setup?

12MB/sec is 96Mbps, which is outstanding if it's an overseas server. It suggests something is on a 100Mbps connection.

I use TweakNews, can only get around 8.0MB/s on my 100/20 connection. It doesn't bother me too much to be honest, and is probably indicative of my usenet provider not ISP.

50 connections each on Astraweb, Newsdemon and Thundernews.

It has exceeded 22MB/s before, but very rarely.

sorry, are you pulling from all 3 simultaneously for 1 download or are 2 of those your lower priority blocks?

My point earlier is still relevant - you're getting 96Mbps. Do you have a 100Mbps wired network at home? If you're wired you need gigabit to go faster. Wireless, who knows.

Depends in the size of the linux ISO I am downloading, but yes they are set to use all three at once if needed.

I originally had 1 as a primary and the other two as backups, but when you only pay per xx GB block, it works out the same cost whether you use one or three.

fair enough, i can get similar speeds to you if i added in my blocks on a single download as your doing,  but thats not ideal its just costing more money burning through the blocks if its not using the monthly unlimited provider (supernews)

In Auckland with bigpipe 200/200 all hardwired gigabit.

It varies but on average 15-18.5.  I've never seen it go past 19 and have only seen it at 19 once!

Everything is automated via Sonaar and Couchpotato so don't look at Sabnzbd much unless something fails so it doesn't bother me too much.  I do notice though that the speed varies during the downloads quite a lot.  Can peak at 18 and go as low as 7-8 sometimes.  Not sure if it's noise on my end or just because of the servers being in the US and EU.  I've never had a steady connection where the speed in constant.

With astraweb with a newsgroupdirect block account as backup.

50 connections.

Newshosting.com, 200/200 connection in CHCH.

15-18MBps, average around 17MBps.

Downloads pausing every couple of minutes to give the HDD time to catch up, not bad.

are you on the 30 connection or 60 connection plan?

its rather odd your HDDs cant keep up? been used for something else as well?

30 connection plan.

The downloads go onto a temporary drive before they get sorted and moved, its an older 1TB WD Green and could be on the way out, or it might just be powering down a bit too aggressively, either way its only 5-10 seconds every couple of minutes, not worried.

thought id just finish this off with that i ended up with, (on gigabit plan now tho)

Newsgroup Ninja with its 50 connections is pretty decent about 35MB/sec download, 8$ a month USD so decent pricing

its highwinds so as always supplement with block accounts on other usenet backbones
