Ok, So I've just moved my Gigabit connection to BigPipe from Vodafone. The main reason is I wanted an affordable static IP.

The issue is my speed has dropped from 950/500 to 220/450. https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5654742313

I've tried 3 different routers and even a direct PPPoE connection from the laptop, same result.

A couple of interesting things when using speedtest.net

1  The routers CPUs don't really get a workout ...30 to 50%

2 When the laptop is directly connected to the ONT the laptop Network usage goes to 100% in task manager

3 I can easily get Gigabit speeds from the laptop LAN card when doing local transfers

Could I really expect to see such a slowdown by going from DHCP to PPPoE?

Oh and Lastly BigPipe support doesn't seem to see the problem, they infact said:

Hey Matthew,

Thanks for sending those results through to us! :)

We can see that everything on your line is running as it should be and we are glad that connecting via PPPoE has resolved the issue of your speeds."......... Um No

Which server are you testing against?

Mostly it seems to default to the Spark Auckland or Call plus Auckland.

Any of the others I try seem slower...

Hey - one of our support agents has been back to you about this. All good with the reply? Speeds should have returned to normal now, if not we'll definitely stay on it until it's sorted out. Let us know.

Also, yeah, best to use the Spark Auckland server when doing Bigpipe speedtests.

Be aware, the miniport adaptor used for PPPoE on windows does struggle a tad with 1000/500.
